Kripke to Fans: Trust Me On This One
Supernatural boss Eric Kripke sat down and chatted with Michael Ausiello at EW about the out pouring of negative fan response to a certain guest star on next week’s episode. Kripke asks for a little faith from the shows devoted fans and for them to withhold judgement until they see the episode. If he’s reading the comments here, he knows it may be a little late on the witholding judgement, but in Kripke We Trust.
Full article after the jump.
It stands to reason that a Supernatural season built around a looming apocalypse would feature a guest turn by Paris Hilton. But series creator Eric Kripke says the casting stunt — airing next Thursday — doesn’t herald the end of the world as we know it.
“I don’t think we’re gassing up the motorcycle to jump the shark yet,” insists Kripke of the episode, which finds the hotel heiress playing “a monster who takes the form of Paris Hilton… It’s a fun, irreverent episode about modern celebrity. [Fans] should withhold judgment until they see it.”
Kripke insists the idea to cast Hilton originated in the Supernatural writers room and not in a CW executive suite. “There was no pressure form the studio or network to do any stunt casting,” he says. “We had our wish list in the room of who would be the best spokesperson for a satirical monologue on modern celebrity and Paris Hilton was at the top of the list. We never expected in a million years that she would do it, but I spoke to her and she got the joke immediately and signed on quickly.
“I give her a lot of credit for being a hell of a good sport,” he continues. “The fact that she was game to play the part speaks volumes about her sense of humor.”
I redacted the part where Ausiello refers to supernatural fans as Supe Nazi’s. It’s a pun that’s nowhere near funny.

I for one trust Kripke. He shouldn’t pay any heed to any of the complaints. It’s his story and his show. He can’t please everyone so he should just aim to please himself and the epic love story of Sam and Dean.

OK though I don’t like Paris but I’ll trust Kripke and hope he won’t let us the fans down which he didn’t all these years. So you go Kripke you have the fans support

When I first heard about PAris being on Supernatural I was uneasy about it. I didn’t like the idea and I hated the fact that someone like Paris could be involved in Supernatural.
BUT, after giving it much thought I have to agree with Kripke. I have to wait and see how the episode goes before judging it. I have faith in Kripke.
So far whenever something arises that makes me question the show, Kripke always shows me that I don’t need to worry because he knows what he’s doing.
I have faith in Kripke. In Kripke I trust.

Don’t worry, Eric, true fans trust you!!! I’m excited about the next episode, excited about Paris Hilton portraying a monster portraying Paris Hilton!!
I’m sure it’s gonna be brilliant. Can’ wait to see Dean’s reaction to Paris
And it’s written by Julie Siege, I love her. Besides we just NEED a light episode after all that heavy stuff. Bring it!

I don’t care one way or another if Paris Hilton is guest starring. At least she has a sense of humor about it.
Comment by Jared — October 2, 2009 @ 4:43 pm
I agree with EK: Paris Hilton is a good sport to be willing to satirize herself this way. She’ll be an asset to the show. Not only will she give the series some needed publicity, she could draw in new viewers who might like what they see and stick around for the rest of the season. As for “Supe Nazis,” I’m not sure the comment was entirely undeserved. People who make nasty judgments about someone they don’t even know are begging for others to make nasty judgments about them.

I hate paris hilton myself but i’m not in a frenzy about her being on the show. i can’t wait to see it and I think it will be another brilliant episode with much needed humor after all the drama that’s been going on and who else to bring humor and blondness but paris hilton. Now that’s hot(well jensen and jared anyway)

Paris Hilton is a ditz but I personaly can’t wait to see what happens with her on Supernatural. There are always going to be something that fans don’t like, yet in the end it turns out pretty well. After 5 years of devotion to the show I trust in what the writers and Eric are doing. Even crazy episodes have their purpose, whether it’s telling an underline story or just to cut some tention (after all it can’t all be angst, can it?).
Comment by Becky — October 2, 2009 @ 6:41 pm
Not much of a Paris Hilton fan but I give her props for having a good sense of humour and not taking herself that seriously by playing a parody of herself in Supernatural. That to me says a lot. And I’ve always had faith in Kripke. No matter what, he always manages to pull out a good, entertaining episode, so I’m not going to start doubting him 5 seasons in!

I have no personal grind to ax with Paris Hilton.
“Hate” is a strong, unkind word. Leave the woman alone and enjoy the show. That’s why you watch it, right? To enjoy the drama, suspense and fun? I don’t watch the show to find out who I’m going to hate that week. Take the high road, huh?
Comment by Delia — October 2, 2009 @ 8:24 pm
I just don’t like Paris Hilton; it has nothing to do with any distrust in Eric Kripke. If anyone can do something good with Hilton, its Kripke and Co.! I’m sure the episode will be interesting.
Comment by Swordstress — October 2, 2009 @ 8:42 pm
Espero que sea el episodio MENOS visto de toda la temporada, Mr. Kripke: What r u doing??? Paris Hilton???
Comment by Martitha — October 2, 2009 @ 9:23 pm
Listen up everybody, I know most of us dind’t like the idea of having “everybody loves me” on our favourite tv show “Supernatural” but I say let’s give Mr. Kripke our vote of confidence, I know he doesn’t need it, but we the fans love this show a lot, and we don’t want our fellow partners to change the channel just because of her.
It’s only one episode and I assume her apperance is going to be as scary as the monster she’s about to playl ja ja ja, just kidding!!!
Greetings from Mexico, everyone.
Mr. Kripke, if you’re reading this, thank you so much for creating a program that I could only dream of. If you did a new version of Poltergeist the movie, I am sure it would be a great, as your show is, with your experience…just a thought.
Comment by Maria Cruz — October 2, 2009 @ 9:31 pm
I agree with Swordstress, i have full belief in Eric Kripke and the writers. I’m sure it’ll be a good episode, but i still dislike ms. hilton. gank hilton! gank hilton!

Yeah I couldn’t trust Kripke more but I’ve still felt a little… strange since I found out about this episode xD I bet Jared and Paris had some “House of Wax” memories to discuss!

Short of permanently killing off one or both remaining Winchester brothers, there is absolutely nothing Kripke can do on his show that is worse than the creation of Adam Winchester. Next to that, Paris Hilton is just a small annoyance. It’ll just be one of those things I fast-forward through, and I’ll keep watching the show because the basic story I love, although battered, is still there.
Comment by bestshowfan — October 3, 2009 @ 9:50 am
Oh, come on guys, bump if you’ve never dreamt about hunting Paris Hilton’s blond skinny ass down…we’re gonna love it!!!
And about the SUper Nazi thing…i think it’s a little bit true, we are very rabid about our show and every time they try to change something or introduce a new character we panic and bitch around, but we always have to eat it back so…Let’s just believe in Master Eric”!!
Comment by Marcy — October 3, 2009 @ 9:59 am
Never a Paris Hilton fan myself (I’m with redzuan — gank her!) but I have to give her props for getting the show and having a sense of humor about it. People who are open to making fun of themselves are all right in my book, and although I’m not really interested in anything else she does, I’m intrigued about Eric’s plans for her with our boys. I trust Eric and the writers and I’m also with Justice: We need a light-hearted episode to dispell some of the recent darkness. As always when it comes to our favorite show: BRING IT!!
Comment by Fara — October 3, 2009 @ 12:26 pm
I was shocked to see Paris in the preview I am sure she doesnt care about the show its just a money thing for her. But I dont care if she is a guest for one eppy. I trust Kripe will do another good job
Comment by sdf — October 3, 2009 @ 1:26 pm
When I first heard about Paris guest staring I was like WTF! I couldn’t even imagine how they could fit her in. But I trust Kripke, he hasn’t disappointed so far…I just hope the phrase ‘there’s a first time for everything’ doesn’t come through. So please Kripke don’t let me down!… =D

I would be watching supernatural no matter who was in it. I really enjoy all the different actors they have on each week, it certainly makes life interesting and the fun episodes, are some of my favourites.
Comment by blackimpala67 — October 3, 2009 @ 3:28 pm
Sorry Kripe. I don’t trust you anymore. I used to be a big fan, but all your doing is messing up Season 5 like Heroes messed up Season 2, 3, and 4. Go back to classic Supernatural, and i’ll trust you again.
Comment by Alan — October 3, 2009 @ 3:34 pm
I think it’s entirely funny that the fanworld is coming to an end because Eric has Paris in a season. You would think they would be having a fit over the last eppy with dead Bobby, dead Paula, dead future Dean. WOW, I can’t wait to see this, the preview had me laughing my a** off, and after all the tears I shed over that last eppy, I need a laugh. Thank God that Eric is writing this and not the fans, it would have never made it past Season 1.
Love you Eric! XOXOXO

I don’t mind the next episode with Paris Hilton. I saw the previews and it looks funny. I am beginning to like the lighter episodes because I’m not crazy about the angel/world ending ones. For those who object maybe the writers are spending too much time in Hollywood and should be on location in Canada where it is cold and rainy with no movie star influences around so that they can get a feel for the nitty gritty origins of the show.

to watch Paris Hilton die a bloody Supernatural would make my night!!!!lol
Comment by Christy — October 3, 2009 @ 6:12 pm
I’m just looking forward to seeing Sam and Dean hunting together again. Hopefully, some brother banter and just case silliness-classic standalone episode stuff. Can’t wait.
Comment by Stacy — October 3, 2009 @ 6:51 pm
From the first time I saw that Paris was going to be on an episode, I was so excited! I love Paris Hilton! The more I learn about her, the more I like her. It’s because she CAN laugh at herself, and she continues doing what SHE wants despite what other people have to say about it, that I like her.
As I’ve been saying all along, I fully trust what Kripke is doing with the show. Him and the shows other writers, etc. know what they’re doing. They aren’t going to ruin the show by putting Paris Hilton in an episode-it will obviously have a purpose.
I can’t wait until next week. I trust Kripke, and I think the show just keeps getting better and better.
Comment by Deanna — October 3, 2009 @ 9:23 pm
It really dont bother me that Paris is in the show, because it will be a hilarious ep. I personally love more the epic and heavy ones. cant be heavy enough for me, and so i can wait to see ep 6, and is five more a snack.
Comment by yvonne — October 4, 2009 @ 6:15 am
I personally can’t stand Paris Hilton, well at least we know she will be wooden as hell, like all her acting. I agree with Cristy to see her die on the show we be fantastic.
I trust Kripke, i do.
Comment by Kelly — October 4, 2009 @ 12:39 pm
Nothing’s more stupid than to judge before seeing. No matter how much we may dislike an actor, we CANNOT say anything yet. Let’s see.
Comment by Xupz — October 4, 2009 @ 12:49 pm
Portraying Gandhi as violent is a silly silly move. If it was Jesus they were depicting the world would be up in arms, but because it’s a wonderful man that we know existed and was Indian, well, that gives people free reign to do whatever they want.
I’m sorry Kripke, but it’s just another sensationalist, and silly, pile of shit. I still have faith in you to turn things around, but you need to get away from all this sensationalist and showbiz crap.

I am really tired of reading about how Kripke has to defend the show from “irate fans”. I understand SN has a HUGE fan base….but it seems like we can’t go two episodes without people getting pissed off about one thing or another. For the most part I know thousands of us “Trust the Krip” but my God…
Kripke and everyone else who works countless hours on that show has yet to disappoint us (or they’d be off the air by now) so I really wish people would calm down and just enjoy the show.
I myself am excited, the episode looks freakin’ hilarious already and I can’t wait to see how they kill off Paris (we know it’s coming).

I agree, I always have faith in them and the ideas they have. I never assume or judge. I really like the direction its going.
I actually think its kind of funny because when Jensen was on the Chelsea Lately show, he made a derogatory and funny comment about the Hilton sisters. So you wonder what he is thinking
Comment by Corina — October 4, 2009 @ 6:56 pm
I cant wait for Dean or Sam to gank her with the demon-knife and then say ” Now this is HOT!” That would be classic… ya listening EK?
Comment by KevinH — October 4, 2009 @ 7:19 pm
i pledge my allegiance to kripke.. i think season five could be my favorite yet, if the rest of the season is as totally awesome as the last four episodes have been
Comment by Lora — October 4, 2009 @ 7:43 pm
When I first read the news a few weeks ago I wasn’t sure it would have been a good idea… but with the way the season has been going so far, with the episodes getting better and better I say “bring it on!”… We need a few laughs after the whole seperation we just been through this past month (omg it’s almost been a month since Supernatural’s return!!! wow!) and I have a good feeling about this episode. I trust Kripke, the writers and in a way I trust that Paris will have done a good job being Paris.
Cannot freaking wait until Thursday!
The thing that bugs me here is that we get called Super Nazis or whatever. Okay, so we are hardcore fans but to be called Nazis??!!! This show deserves the hardcoreness and we’ll bring it on as much as we want to! RAAAAA!!!! There’s already enough of Twitter that can’t stand us *giggles*
Comment by Julie — October 5, 2009 @ 4:32 am
For the straight, male fan of this show…(which there doesn’t seem to be many of us) I think it’s great…. there are 2 roles that Paris Hilton is good for
1 - a piece of ass with something shoved in her mouth so she can’t talk… or …
2 - someone who will end up getting killed in a horrifically funny way.

I challenge him to take the piss out of Jesus!!!!!
Comment by Kevin Lee — October 6, 2009 @ 12:09 am
What they are doing with Gandhi is just wrong, I don’t care how they dress it up. If a show is not about historical figures, then don’t include historical figures in that show.
If Kripke really had some balls he’d take the piss out of Jesus instead. I mean he is tackling biblical figures after all isn’t he, so why not Jesus????
Not only would he be too scared of the backlash in his own country, but he probably wouldn’t want to do it anyway because he’s probably a Christian himself. If he had already taken the piss out of Jesus than I would be a little more lenient in my view of what he’s doing with Gandhi, but he hasn’t.
In fact I challenge him to take the piss out of Jesus!!!!!
And before anyone states it, no, Lincoln is not on the same level as Gandhi or Jesus
Comment by Kevin Lee — October 6, 2009 @ 12:14 am
Geeze Kevin Lee, where have you been? First off, I believe Eric is Jewish. Second this is about HISTORICAL figures, not religion, Lincoln was a political leader and so was Gandhi, neither one of them were saints, so don’t dress them up to be one. Third,YOUR THE WHINY FAN Eric is talking to. So listen for a change~!

I completely trust the team behind SPN! they havent let us down yet, and I know they never will. I hope he knows we’re not all always freaking out over everything. I think the largest part of this fandom still has faith in the team.
