100th Episode Official Description

This just in, the official plot synopsis for the show’s 100th episode, airing April 15.  Since this may contain spoilers, you can find it after the jump.

The episode is called “Point of No Return” and here’s what’s in store:

“SUPETRNATURAL’S 100TH EPISODE STUNS WITH AN OLD FRIEND AND A SACRIFICE – Dean (Jensen Ackles) begins to think the only way to stop Lucifer is to say yes to Michael, but the angels decide they don’t need him anymore.  Dean, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) are horrified at the angels’ new game plan and take on Zachariah (guest star Kurt Fuller) to prevent an all out war on Earth.  Meanwhile, a familiar face returns.  Phil Sgrricia directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver”

First, kudos to Jeremy Carver for getting to write the 100th episode.  His scripts are always great.  Also, a new game plan?  I’m starting to think the angels are the real bad guys this season , not Lucifer.

And who is this familiar face?  Obviously Jeffrey Dean Morgan as God would be the coolest, but maybe it’s an unhappy face like someone with Yellow Eyes.  Right now those are my two best guesses, what about you?

  1. omg they better not be sacrificing Bobby or Castiel, Dean and Sam either. and Zacariah is a douche

    Comment by Sianna — March 26, 2010 @ 12:03 pm

  2. ALL ANGELS ARE DOUCHES. NO EXCEPTIONS. That’s my official SN motto.

    Comment by Milos — March 26, 2010 @ 12:26 pm

  3. Sorry, I forgot to answer the question. I’m hoping JDM will be dropping in for visit–and what better episode than the 100th? If we do see John again, I just hope the stinking angels aren’t using him to push their agenda.

And this whole business about the angels rejecting Dean in favor of a new game plan? Not likely. My guess is they’re still trying to get him to say yes–this time by pretending to adopt an even more horrific alternative than for him to become Michael’s vessel and torch half the world.
No way are the angels going to give up their “destined” prize fight. Of course, if it’s only the bodies of Sam and Dean the angels need, I guess they could threaten to put other spirits inside them and carry out the threat.

Anyway, I do hope SN’s God comes to Dean in JDM’s form. AND I hope God asks Dean to say yes and to convince his brother to say yes, too. I think SN’s God knows what he’s doing. I want to see Sam use his (God-given) powers and maybe Dean use his amulet to blow the freakin’ angels and Lucifer off the planet!

    Comment by Milos — March 26, 2010 @ 12:41 pm

  4. I’m hoping the new game plan isn’t Adam. I don’t want to see him again. I am looking forward to the boys taking on Zachariah, and I hope it is Dean that takes him out (although I don’t know how he would be able to do that.) I really like Kurt Fuller’s Zachariah, but I’m ready for the boys to start winning in big ways…you know, smart, quick on their feet, calling bluffs. I’m hoping it’s not Castiel or the anti-Christ kid coming to the rescue. Really looking forward to this episode, though.

  5. First of all,to calm you down Sianna,I don’t think it’s gonna be any of the guys..Obviously it won’t be the Winchesters and I read somewhere that there is a death, but it’s not that huge..Plus we’ve seen both Cas and Bobby shooting scenes for later episodes! So,I think we’re good(for now)!!
Now…I was thinking!Could the old friend and the sacrifice be about the same person??I don’t know why,but I’m stuck with Gabriel!!I don’t think we can consider Zachariah a sacrifice, even if he dies..So,Gabriel is my choice!I mean, there’s no one else left!Who else can sacrifice himself??Even Gabriel is a long shot, but I can’t think of anyone else!!!
I’m gonna bust..I have to see the 100th episode like..yesterday!!At least the episodes before that seem pretty great!!!

    Comment by Katerina — March 26, 2010 @ 1:06 pm

  6. Says an old friend so I doubt it’d be either Yellow Eyes or Papa Winchester… hm, trying to think of what non-dead friends they even have left? Was Ash confirmed 100% to be in the heaven episode?

    Comment by Marc — March 26, 2010 @ 1:28 pm

  7. You know I really want to see Michael put Zachariah in his place. I know that Zachariah doesn’t have more authority than the archangels so what the hell is going on in heaven with him in control?

    Comment by Michael DeFeo — March 26, 2010 @ 1:36 pm

  8. Sheri, I don’t want to disappoint you, but I think that Adam is a possibility. There are two elements in favour of this theory: Adam is a possible vessel by bloodline and rumour is that he will be back in an “important” role.

To those who are fearing for Castiel and Bobby, the two of them are scheduled for later episodes, so unless this sacrifice doesn’t involve their lives, they seem to be safe. Or if they do die, chances are that they will be brought back. I hope it’s not any of them, though. I want it to concentrate on the boys, who are the main players, not on anyone else.

    Comment by Andrea — March 26, 2010 @ 1:52 pm

  9. What they’re referring to is almost certainly an Adam plan. I truly truly hope not, because that would stink, and sink Supernatural once and for all.

“I’m starting to think the angels are the real bad guys this season , not Lucifer.”

That would be a great direction in my opinion.

    Comment by Kevin Lee — March 26, 2010 @ 1:55 pm

  10. It’s probably Ash cause Chad was up here in Vancouver filming around #100 ep time.

    Comment by Kathy — March 26, 2010 @ 2:14 pm

  11. In Supernatural 5×14 “The End” the future Dean said to present Dean, that when he finally decided to say “yes” to Michael the angel’s wouldn’t listen anymore. It was too late.
So he say’s to present Dean “to find Zach and say Yes”.

He know that Zach know the future, because he showed the future to Dean in 5×14. And because he know that Dean never say “yes”, he goes for the alternative.

For me used Adam would anger both Dean and Sam because Adam is innocent. The boy’s have a role in the Apocalyse, but Adam no.

For me that anger Castiel too, because Castiel believes that Heaven is the paradise. He believes that Heaven is for people to rest, for people to be in peace.

Castiel say’s that to Dean in 4×21 “Lucifer Raising” – “in Paradise all is forgiven and you would be at peace”.

So, the angel’s bring Adam back is to wrong.

    Comment by Isabela — March 26, 2010 @ 3:50 pm

  12. I forget… why can’t/doesn’t Dean want to say yes to Michael to save the world again? Is it only b/c he doesn’t want to kill Sam? Does that mean he ALSO wants Sam to say yes? I’m confused.

    Comment by iilaiia — March 26, 2010 @ 4:18 pm

  13. Don’t know who the familiar face returning is but I do know that since Castiel is an angel all angels are not douches!

    Comment by SL — March 26, 2010 @ 4:22 pm

  14. hmmm the only people that aint been mentioned as old friends are maybe well that would sacrific them selves is maybe rufus????? and maybe god is there mother or grandfather ????

    Comment by Karen — March 26, 2010 @ 4:27 pm

  15. sorry just noticed a few other comment hmmmm adam s dead so he can’t be a vessel??!!!!! i think the other motive is just 2 let earth burn theyve ha enough

    Comment by Karen — March 26, 2010 @ 4:32 pm

  16. @liliana Dean doesn’t wanna say ‘yes’ because if he does than the Battle between Michael/Angels & Lucifer/Demons will destroy most of the planet & Millions of people will die in the crossfire.

    Comment by Elmeco — March 26, 2010 @ 4:51 pm

  17. iilaiia, Dean doesn’t want to say yes because Michael will use his body to fight an epic battle with Lucifer that will end up torching half the planet. Sam and Dean are basically avoiding the two angels’ confrontation.

And I, for one, think the Adam storyline would be interesting. If he is the one Zachariah plans to use, then he is the guaranteed non crucial death in this episode.

    Comment by HausofGlass — March 26, 2010 @ 4:54 pm

  18. Well, according to IMDB (which we know isn’t alway accurate, but sometime IS) they have Lauren Cohen and Genevieve listed as Bela and Ruby – but that has since been removed.
It could have been removed because they’re not actually in the epi – OR they could have been removed because the powers that be know how people felt about Bela and Ruby and don’t want to lose viewers….
But that’s who I think it is.

    Comment by Rho — March 26, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

  19. Upon reading about this episode a while ago, I jumped to the assumption that Sam was the one who would be doing the sacrificing. I’m not even sure if the person who does the sacrificing is the one who dies now. I think it could be Adam that does the dying, as strange as that sounds, and Dean making the sacrifice. Maybe I’m wrong though, and it’s Adam on both counts.

Adam, however isn’t an old friend. He isn’t familiar. That would be Gabriel. Maybe both of those are involved.

Dean sacrifices himself, i.e. says yes to Michael, so that they don’t use Adam, who is simply sent back to Heaven, i.e. the death. I’m clutching at straws.

With Dark Side of The Moon, and this, I’m excited about the show again, but I will be very disappointed if Dean makes a sacrifice for Adam, after his reluctance all year to do the same thing for Sam or Bobby. There is no emotion attached to Adam. We’ve seen him once, and that wasn’t him. There is no development there. Also, Ausiello’s statement “There’s a death, but I wouldn’t exactly call it major” doesn’t inspire much confidence.

I also wonder what episode 17 has in store for us.

    Comment by Kevin Lee — March 26, 2010 @ 7:25 pm

  20. OK I might be wrong but somebody told me before that angels can’t get into dead bodies because they need the host´s permission to do that, so how are they going to get into Adam’s body if he’s dead and mainly and over all, if his body was torched, it makes non sense to me, even if it happens it would be a huge mistake in my opinion.

    Comment by Jazz — March 26, 2010 @ 7:37 pm

  21. Maybe Crowley

    Comment by Mike — March 26, 2010 @ 7:55 pm

  22. so this is where season 6 will draw in. since the angels are now rejecting their 1st game plan now they have a 2nd one.. hmm, wonder what season 6 will be like? my possible guess is that it still probably has to do something with vessels. maybe adam? cause adam died by a ghoul and his body was torched, i think the angels can call in a few favors to bring him back and make him say yes? idk.

thats my only guess. im betting the familiar face is michael.

    Comment by Lelouch — March 26, 2010 @ 9:03 pm

  23. I’m of two minds. On one hand it will defiantly be a terrific and epic episode. On the other hand though, sacrificing a main character would be really dumb. Everyone has grown to love these characters. I know I love Castiel and Dean, and many others are Sam and/or Bobby fans, so it’s a lose, lose situation.

    Comment by Lorenna — March 26, 2010 @ 9:45 pm

  24. First of all, this is Supernatural we’re talking about. Everybody could be sacrificed and still come back. I just hope that they keep Misha Collins as Castiel.

After “Dead men don’t wear Plaid” I have to say I want to get my hopes up but that was a disappointing episode to watch. It was good and all, but… I hope “Point of No Return” is going to live up to fans expectations.

    Comment by Jamie Gregory — March 26, 2010 @ 9:55 pm

  25. How can the angels choose Adam? The bloodline thing obviously works, but Michael said specifically that Dean was the Chosen One, especially with the whole mythology of him and Sam being like Cain and Abel, etc. that’s brought up every time the angels visit them this season. That would be a ridiculous inconsistency.
If Ash comes back, that would be fun. Or Crowley.

    Comment by Erika — March 27, 2010 @ 12:12 am

  26. Bobby’s wife was cremated too and she came back. I don’t see it as a problem if someone really wants to bring Adam back. It seems everything in Supernatural is possible.

    Comment by Andrea — March 27, 2010 @ 5:43 am

    Comment by stephan — March 27, 2010 @ 7:27 am

  28. Bringing him back would not be a problem, it just wouldn’t make sense because of all the intense mythology they’ve been spouting at us about Sam and Dean being the only “true” vessels.

    Comment by Erika — March 27, 2010 @ 8:40 am

  29. I think people saying Adam, Gabriel or Rufus are off base… none of those people are old friends. They’re either family, mostly enemies or passing acquaintances. Also, with Adam… they can bring him back from the dead… they said it could happen to Sam if Anna killed him without scattering his parts through time, Zack said he could bring back Chuck if he killed himself and they brought Dean back from the dead even though his bones were salted and torched. So all they would have to do is resurrect Adam and convince him to say yes… even though I don’t think he is the “old friend” they are referring to.

    Comment by Marc — March 27, 2010 @ 8:47 am

  30. I don’t understand how Adam can be the next “chosen one”. He is John’s son but not Mary’s. The Cupid stated in My Bloody Valentine that it was important for heaven to get Mary and John together. The bloodline is with Mary and John, not just John for the ultimate strong vessel that can handle the war meaning Sam or Dean. I think Sam should offer himself to Michael to mess up the whole plan. Michael can easily “cleanse” Sam.

    Comment by Van — March 27, 2010 @ 9:30 am

  31. the familiar face could be Chuck…

    Comment by Isha — March 27, 2010 @ 12:16 pm

  32. Well, as Dean always says: “Angels are dicks. Demon’s are bitches.” I hope nothing happens to Bobby. Poor Bobby on this last episode.

    Comment by EmilyJean — March 27, 2010 @ 12:16 pm

  33. Well Pamela’s coming back but i’m not posotive if it’s this episode, really hope its JDM, love him, i’m sure the douches, sorry i mean angels have something up their sleeves and John’s re-appearance would really stir things up. can’t wait!

    Comment by Koop — March 27, 2010 @ 12:34 pm

  34. Maybe it’s Ben!! Lisa lied. Ben is both alive and would have the bloodline needed. What wouldn’t Dean do to save his son?

I just love the idea that there is a little mini Dean running around out there. Not betting the farm on Ben.

I actually like the idea of Gabriel. I have no doubt that he has more to play in this game and I think that Dean got to him in there last confrontation.

All these episodes sound great and I can’t wait for the rest of the season.

    Comment by Chris24 — March 27, 2010 @ 12:54 pm

  35. I’m at a loss about who this old face might be. As for Adam as a vessel, Michael said something about Dean being the best vessel but not the only one. So there COULD be an alternative. Why would they create a third Winchester brother out of nowhere for one episode only and never mention him again? There must be some role for Adam.

    Comment by Andrea — March 27, 2010 @ 1:24 pm

  36. Marc, Dean was not salted and burned. Bobby wanted it, but Sam wouldn’t allow it.

    Comment by Nikki — March 27, 2010 @ 2:45 pm

  37. @Marc

I don’t think Adam is a possibility because he is only the son of John Winchester, not Mary Winchester. As Cupid said, “the union of John and Mary” was very important, “Sam and Dean had to be born” meaning that if it could be Adam, they wouldn’t have put so much effort into their marriage and conception of Sam and Dean.

Also, Dean wasn’t salted and burned like usual. Bobby said that he wanted him “salted and burned, usual drill but Sam wouldn’t have it.”

But the nature of the host’s body being laid to rest isn’t the issue I don’t think.

    Comment by Leo — March 27, 2010 @ 8:24 pm

  38. I know that Adam coming back is probably going to happen but for some reason I really don’t want it. It was such a hard episode to watch knowing that John was able to give one of his children a normal life but wasn’t able to do the same for dean or sam. I think the old friend is going to be Pam. I don’t know why but I just feel that her character has more to come. Plus I loved her character, she was awesome. As well as her sacrificing for the boys would be an interesting twist because she didn’t leave on such good terms with them. I don’t know can’t wait for more!!!

    Comment by krys — March 28, 2010 @ 4:49 am

  39. JDM would be a welcome return, for any reason, but there are several other possibilities, including, as an extreme example, Dean’s son, Ben Braeden (yes, Lisa Braeden disclaimed Dean’s paternity due to a “blood test” she did when Ben was a baby, which means nothing – besides making her out to be a promiscuous slut, was she in the habit of taking blood samples from bedmates on the offchance they’d come in handy for the baby she had no intention of conceiving? What if Dean and “biker guy” had the same blood type? etc). Remember, Jimmy Novak’s daughter Claire is only a couple of years older than Dean’s son and she managed to contain Castiel in her body for a short time. Immaturity of age is clearly no barrier to possession, as Lillith demonstrated by her preference for overwhelming children. Now since Lisa, Ben, Amelia and Claire know “the truth that’s out there” it is possible they may have become involved in hunting themselves.
However, I think “the angels” is too simplistic a grouping – SN has repeatedly shown a variety of angels and demons acting either according to their own agenda, or like Zachariah/Uriel persuading a faction of these to act, but not all. This isn’t “the angels’ new game plan”, it is the latest bit of scheming by Zachariah and his faction of angels – they may be in a minority or a majority, but they are not acting and do not represent the intentions or game plan of *all* angels, just like Azazel only represented some demons’ in his wish to free Lucifer whilst others would have been much happier had Satan stayed locked down forever – Crowley, Azazel, Alistair, Lillith, Ruby, Zachariah, Anna, Uriel, Castiel, Raphael and Gabriel/Trickster are all examples of angels/demons who are or were working to their own agendas, not any universally agreed/encompassing game plan. Jeremy Carver is a clever writer and I suspect he has taken those facts on board – after all, Zachariah himself was exposed as nothing more than a senior management bureaucrat in Season 4 who had overreached his authority and set about doing what he wanted because he is desperate to believe God has gone. I still think that both Michael and Lucifer, in their obsession with claiming Dean and Sam as their vessels to continue their sibling spat, will end up experiencing an object lesson in the warning, “be careful what you wish for, because you might get it”. We’ve already seen examples of how the hosts can influence the demon/angel, and I doubt either Winchester brother is going to be a pushover in the possession department.

    Comment by Ysabel Ekaterin — March 28, 2010 @ 5:47 am

  40. Ben Braeden being a part of this would be Supernatural’s most terrible idea, and I’m quite sure that the show will not go there.

    Comment by Kevin Lee — March 28, 2010 @ 5:59 am

  41. I think the “Blood Test” refers to a DNA test, which would absolutely cancel Dean out as Ben’s father because even though people can have the same blood type, they can’t have the same DNA.

As for the familiar face, I have no idea. It really could be anyone. If they somehow managed JDM without it getting leaked, I would freak out and be the happiest person in the world :D Although I’m sure whoever it is will be just as great!

As for the sacrifice, I’m thinking someone like Gabriel… Because Ask Ausello, or whatever it is, said that the sacrifice wasn’t necessarily ‘major’ … so maybe Gabriel, or Chuck (even though the Angel’s said they’d just bring him back) Someone like that. I mean, Gabriel isn’t an ENEMY, I mean he did mess with them a whole bunch, but I thikn after Dean’s speech to him in Changing Channels, it hit him.

I can’t wait to see it!!

    Comment by Ashley — March 28, 2010 @ 6:25 am

  42. I hope it is Ash. I hope that it’s not true that he died because i love him and i would also like if Jeffrey Dean Morgan came back but it might be Katie Casidy as Ruby. Also they better not SACRIFICE Bobby or Cas because I would really die and if Dean dies i would cry for like hours days maybe.

  43. OMD it could be the Trickter but they probably couldn’t get JDM because he would cost to much money.

    Comment by Anna — March 28, 2010 @ 6:43 am

  44. About this sacrifice, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… nobody has said any characters will die and spoiler sites are usually quite specific in saying that when a death is coming. I believe this sacrifice won’t necessarily be one that causes the death of whoever makes it.

I thought of Chuck too though because it was said awhile back that he would be back but not with Becky I believe (thank God, what a useless character.) It just flies in the face of the whole “old friend” thing again. They just met last season and he’s interacted with the boys like what… four times? That is not what I’d consider an old friend. The boys really don’t have any old friends who are still alive.

    Comment by Marc — March 28, 2010 @ 6:44 am

  45. BTW, someone really needs to update the next new episode section of the site. :P

    Comment by Marc — March 28, 2010 @ 6:47 am

  46. A sacrifice doesn’t necessarily involve one’s life. A person can also sacrifice something precious for him or her. In Sam’s case it would be his humanity, either by using the powers or – more extremely – by saying YES. I can see him doing it for Dean’s sake, perhaps to prevent Dean from saying YES himself. In Dean’s case he would be sacrificing his free will, and so on.

And there’s also the amulet. Is this episode giving us some clue about the damn thing? Please??

    Comment by Andrea — March 28, 2010 @ 6:52 am

  47. I don’t think it will be Ben. There were no spoilers that said the boy who played him was coming back, and Kripke confirmed in an interview that Ben was not Dean’s son, so Ben in not part of the blood line.

  48. The final episode is titled ‘Swan Song’. Is there any special meaning to the title? I’m dying to find out if it’s a reference to anything important

    Comment by Redzuan — March 28, 2010 @ 12:04 pm

  49. 36. Redzuan:

he phrase “swan song” is a reference to an ancient belief that the Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) is completely mute during its lifetime until the moment just before it dies, when it sings one beautiful song.

    Comment by Anthony C. — March 28, 2010 @ 2:18 pm

  50. Also swan song also can refer to:

By extension, “swan song” has become an idiom referring to a final theatrical or dramatic appearance, or any final work or accomplishment. It generally carries the connotation that the performer is aware that this is the last performance of his or her lifetime, and is expending everything in one magnificent final effort.

  53. It will be Erik Kripke’s “Swan Song”. That’s mostly what it’s referring to.

“I believe its Going to Be Ruby. Yea im Pretty Sure”

What’s going to be Ruby? She isn’t an old friend, and I doubt she’s going to sacrifice herself, but you know what, I would absolutely love to see her back. The show has missed her presence this year.

  55. Pamela Barnes and Mary Winchester will return for the episode “Dark Side Of The Moon”. As Far as this episode “Point Of No Return” .. I haven’t found anyone returning in it.

    Comment by josh t — March 28, 2010 @ 6:02 pm

  56. I don’t think it could be Adam if the bloodline needed to be (based on the footage from two different episodes) be the offspring of Mary & John.

Now obviously (at least to some degree) John could be brought back to life and have his form used as a host, but there is no way I can see them getting JDM for it.

As for the death I would assume Zach is toast.

But I would rather (I know its not) be Castiel as I dread the idea of Castiel being in season 6. So I want to make sure to see him die.

    Comment by MarkWood — March 28, 2010 @ 6:46 pm

  57. I totally agree about Castiel, MarkWood. And you may be right about JDM, though he’s a good friend of the boys and has said he’d like to put in a guest appearance. So he might fit SN into his schedule–especially since this is the 100th episode. But assuming it isn’t JDM, I guess it’s anybody’s guess. What about Jesse? Now there’s a powerful weapon against the angels!

As for that new game plan which (apparently) will lead to an all out war on Earth, Revelation speaks of two great battles, a thousand years apart. In the first, the armies of heaven descend to make war against the the followers of Lucifer, including armies of humans–all of whom are killed. Maybe the angels will threaten to carry out their “planetary enema” by sending their heavenly warriors down to wipe out the human race, as well as Lucifer. But I think it’ll only be a threat–or blackmail. These angels believe in “destiny.”

The sacrifice? Well, it could be Sam or Dean, but I’m back to little Jesse again–mainly because the series can’t just leave the antichrist playing in the sand on some beach. I hope I’m wrong, though. I’d rather not see Jesse die after killing Zach. He should go home and make soup.

  61. Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, so I’d be reluctant to trust anything on there until it is officially confirmed. Someone updated the episode synopsis for the first few episodes of One Tree Hill season 7 before the official release, stating that Whitey died and all characters attended his funeral.

I was excited over the ‘familiar face’ returning, but I remembered this is the episode Crowley is supposed to be returning. While I’m excited to see him again I was kinda hoping it would be John or Gabriel :(

  63. Just b/c there is a spoiler that says “old friend” doesn’t mean it’s actually a friend. Last years finale, Eric said that ‘someone dear to us all dies in the finale’ … um yeah, tongue in cheek b/c of how many ppl hated Ruby. So they soooo could be being tongue in cheek again.
And if they bring Adam back, I’ll seriously puke. I did not like that epi or the character or the idea of another brother.

  64. @Andrea I don’t believe it :/ Lol, do you know how easy it to just write that down in Wikipedia? xP

    Comment by Elmeco — March 29, 2010 @ 12:16 pm

  65. Well, I’m not responsible for what it’s written there. It’s just there. Make what you want with the information. But I tell you, I visit Wikipedia a lot for synopses and they are generally accurate.

Rho, in this case they don’t mention old friends or dear people, they give NAMES.

    Comment by Andrea — March 29, 2010 @ 12:27 pm

  66. Those who didn’t check Wikipedia, don’t bother to. It’s not there anymore. I don’t know, but it fits some pieces of information that keep popping up here ann there. Jim Beaver said that the “unimaginable” happens in 5.22, and that he was shocked. And something that the Js said in their LA panel yesterday is suggestive too.

Olivia, I hope you found your head. :)

    Comment by Andrea — March 29, 2010 @ 3:12 pm

  67. Lol, I use Wiki too but They wouldnt just give the Finale’s synopsis that easy (& short). & plus why would Sam say yes to Lucifer just cause Dean did? I mean Michael could just kill Nick/Lucifer like nothing so why would Sam add more trouble to that? lol That’s the only thing Wiki is untrustworthy of =P

    Comment by Elmeco — March 29, 2010 @ 3:12 pm

  68. Has anyone seen the viewing figures for season 5. They’re the worst of the series.

Weird how the numbers drop off towards the end of each season too. Why watch a show throughout most of the season, and then not watch the final few episodes, which are always some of the best episodes in the season. Doesn’t make sense. But, then I suppose that’s the general public for you, and why people like Kripke have such a hard time trying to please all these sectors of people.

If I were him, I’d just try to please the people who have been on board for 4 seasons, and not those who are fickle, casual viewers. If the viewing numbers aren’t enough to renew another season, then just go out swinging.

I’ve got a bad feeling that this show could get cancelled halfway through next season.

    Comment by Kevin Lee — March 29, 2010 @ 3:35 pm

  69. Yeah, I found my head, but it took a while!
I really don’t want for this season to end that way. I remember Ben Edlund saying at the hundred episode party that this season would have a big payoff and Eric said he want that five-year arch to end with a happy note. (And to me giving into the bratty angels with God backing the brats up isn’t happy.) Jim likes to mess with the fan, so I won’t worry about anything he says. I hope they mean that team free will wins!! Maybe that was the surprise that actors are expressing because the boys manage to pull a fast one over everyone. The seasons always end with the worse happening, so maybe the worst won’t happen. Didn’t Jared say that after he learned the ending that this season was his favorite? Good sign?? (I’m really hopeful!!)

    Comment by Olivia — March 29, 2010 @ 4:03 pm

  70. Kevin, I’ve noticed that too, but I think some viewers just watch the stand-only episodes and don’t like the major-arch episodes at the end. Last season, I could understand not wanting to watch because of the boys fighting and separating, especially if you’re a big first season fan who watches the show for the boys together. Sometimes I think Eric uses the passionate fan base as an excuse for not trying. However, the CW most likely won’t cancel the show halfway, because look at the rating for Melrose Place, Gossip Girl, and 90210. Their rating aren’t so great, but they’re still going. Melrose Place, last time I looked, had about a million viewers and they get to finish their first season. Supernatural would have to have less than million viewers and costing the network money, but with the show in syndication on TNT, (two hours a weekday) and the established fan base, they won’t give it the halfway axe.

    Comment by Olivia — March 29, 2010 @ 4:03 pm

  71. Olivia, I’m not sure, if it’s really a good sign that this season is Jared’s favourite. He said in earlier interviews for example that he likes the conflict and fighting between the brothers or he likes playing Lucifer or the best for Sam would be dying at the end of the show. And because I don’t like that at all, I’m not sure, if it’s a good sign… (Sorry for my English, but I’m from Switzerland.)

    Comment by Sandy — March 29, 2010 @ 10:57 pm

  72. Yeah if they don’t improve on the quality of the writing it’ll not survive the whole of season 6 I’m afraid.. This season has been disappointing for me probably because after the ‘Lucifer Rising’ my expectations were sky high for season 5.. Maybe it’s best to lower our expectations for season 6?

    Comment by Aaron — March 30, 2010 @ 5:07 am

  75. Yeah, I read that too, Sandy. Jared likes conflict. But I also remember Jared saying that he would like for Sam to be evil, redeem himself, and then died. The boys are supposed to get into another fist fight before the end of the season. And I’m hoping that based on what the writers said at the beginning of the season about having to shot their way out of the place and how Eric likes to think of the story as a Western and since both the boys have express interest in Western ideas. I know it’s not the world’s greatest sign, but I’m hopeful!

    Comment by Olivia — March 30, 2010 @ 9:11 am

  76. If you really want to know about the Wikipedia page, okay then. It said something along the lines of Dean finally saying yes to Michael after being visited by God. Leaving Sam with only one choice to say yes to Lucifer and ending the Apocalypse.

    Comment by Olivia — March 30, 2010 @ 9:15 am

  77. First of all,thanks Olivia!!I really wanted to know..What can I say..?I have no self control when it comes to spoilers,especially for SPN..(I’m shameless,I know)Then…WOW!!Seriously!?!?!?!OMG,I can’t wait…One question though..Why is Sam’s only choice to say yes to Lucifer,just because Dean did…?I don’t get it…

    Comment by Katerina — March 30, 2010 @ 9:42 am

  78. I’m shameless too with spoilers!!

I think that maybe why the choice for Sam is to say yes might be because Nick has completely burnt out by the time Michael is ready to fight. And the only way to stop everything is for Lucifer to have a vessel. But I don’t trust Wikipedia too much. (Mostly because this ending is just too much of a writers’ cough-out for me.) What happens next season then? The boys wake up and “it was just a dream” of what happened when they were vessels. That’s a big ending. Then after waving goodbye to the angels (who got away with everything), they feel completely refreshed and better than new. They drive off to go hunt a mummy in Maine. Doesn’t sound like a great ending and a new fresh start?

    Comment by Olivia — March 30, 2010 @ 10:27 am

  79. The last episode just finished filming like last week or the week before, I doubt anyone would know enough of it to post an accurate synopsis on wikipedia. The crew wouldn’t do it, I don’t think and given the limited amount of people who would have the knowledge of the finale’s content, I’d think it would be pretty easy to track down who leaked the info. I really don’t buy it at all and the fact that it’s been deleted makes me even less convinced that it’s true.

Nikki & Leo, you’re right about Dean not being salted and burned, I misremembered that exchange from when Dean came back in Lazerus Rising.

Olivia, I’m not sure what your point is when saying you can understand why people wouldn’t watch the show last season… it was their highest rated season, if I remember correctly.

As far as this season being Supernatural’s lowest rated, I can understand why: Their cliffhanger at the end of season four wasn’t as strong as when Dean died and they really ramped up some buzz for the show over the summer between S3 and S4. Having Vampire Diaries as a lead-in probably affected ratings too I’d imagine. While it seems like a perfect fit, I think it’s a little bit too melodramatic for those watching it to be the ones who would be interested in sticking around for Supernatural. Smallville worked far better in this respect, especially when you consider long-time fans would recognize Jensen from his stint on the show. It has some melodrama too but I think the feel of Smallville is a bit closer to Supernatural in terms of characters and their interactions with one another. VD skews a little further female so all those casual male viewers who came from the Smallville lead-in are probably gone

Another reason I think this season hasn’t done as well? I don’t think the writers have given people enough of a reason to stay invested in the show. I’ve loved most of this season’s episodes (still can’t stand the one where Dean gets old) but realistically, they had huge pacing problems with the first half of the season, whether people want to admit it or not.

I’ve said it before but at least the old stand-alone episodes featured a monster of the week that reflected and played on what the boys were sorting through on an emotional level. For examples of that just in season four all you have to do is look at episodes like Metamorphesis, Family Remains, Afterschool Special, Sex And Violence, etc… for examples. This season, aside from mythology based episodes, the stand alone episodes and their monsters have seemed so random… they’ve done nothing to progress the development of the boys’ characters. The only time a monster really connected with their current issues was the episode where Dean got old and that’s because of Bobby’s story.

I think in their rush to get “back to basics” with stand alone episodes, the writers forgot this little detail and how crucial it was to making those stories work. Did the first season have some great moments? Sure… but it didn’t really start firing on all cylinders until these monsters started intertwining with the issues the boys were having and this is what took the show to a whole new level. I think season four really clicked with a larger audience because it was the perfect balance of these stand alones, monsters of the week pushing forward the boys’ characters and series mythology. You weren’t swimming in any of the three and, as a result, it never really felt like last season dragged at points like this season has (there was the post holidays-hiatus of four episodes but it was nowhere near as bad as the first half of season five.)

I’m sure many will disagree but that’s my own opinion anyway.

Getting back on topic here, I am not sure the old friend and the sacrifice are done by the same person. Since Ash shows up in heaven this week apparently, I am going to guess we’re either gonna see Chuck or Adam here, unfortunately… I just say that because I’d like the “old friend” to actually be a surprise and an “old friend.” As for JDM, if he does return to the show, I am pretty positive that it’ll be in Swan Song: Imagine John’s swan song being where he comes back to life as God’s vessel to avert the end of the world. I’m thinking it’ll either be that or Bobby sacrificing his life to do something to avert the apocalypse, whether it be as a vessel or not. Familiar face in this episode will probably be Crowley though and the old friend will most likely be Chuck…. that’s my final answer. lol

  83. Oh and I also meant to mention, there’s no way Supernatural will be cancelled in the middle of the season next year, not when shows that have gone downhill as badly as Smallville are still getting renewed. The ratings may be at a series-low but even staying in the 2.0’s is passing fare on the CW. They’d have to REALLY alienate fans to garner low enough ratings to justify being cancelled before the end of season six: They’re a last place network, the budget might get cut if ratings don’t recover but how much do they really have to lose for fulfilling the 22 episode order for next season? It’d be different if this had happened last season or were the show’s first season but it’ll be their sixth next year and they still have a rabid and loyal fanbase.

BTW, thanks for the compliment, KL: Much appreciated. :)

    Comment by Marc — March 30, 2010 @ 2:03 pm

  84. Interesting, Olivia–thanks! But I can’t figure out why Sam would become Lucifer’s vessel simply because Dean becomes Michael’s. You’re wearing an angel, so I’m going to wear the devil? Huh?

Wouldn’t it make more sense if Sam were visited by God who asks him to say yes? If Dean didn’t know about the visit, he’d probably consent to become Michael’s vessel, believing there’s no other way to stop Lucifer/Sam from destroying the world.

On the other hand, possibly neither brother knows the other has been visited by God and asked to get his prom dress ready for the big prize fight.

Or maybe Castiel heats up the amulet, shows it to Dean, and convinces him that some dude in a bar from Angel Actors Equity is the REAL God.

Actually,I didn’t really get that..Is he messed up generally or because of whatever Cas does?? :S

  92. With reguards to Adam being an old friend, sometimes they stretch the definition of things. Last year we are told there will be a death of an old friend. Everyone feared it would be Bobby but it turned out to be Pamela. Someone they had met twice before.

As for Cas, the sacrifice could be something like Dean is in Zach and Michaels clutches and with his emotional state he sees no other choice but to say yes. Castiel turns himself in allowing Dean to escape. If Dean thinks Cas is dead it would totally explain a break down if he thought he lost someone else he cared about.

Im loving the sound of this episode.

Just some trivia, but Joshua comes from the Hebrew translation of the name Yeshua… which is also translates in English as Jesus. It might be a bit of borrowing from Christianity to support the Supernatural Mythos. Looking forward to see how this turns out.
