“Everybody Hates Hitler” Clip: The Batcave

“As Time Goes By” introduced a ton of new mythology with the Men of Letters and news of their super secret hideout full of every piece of information they’ve ever collected about all things supernatural. The mother lode, the old man called it.

Well, you can check it out in this new clip from the next new episode as Sam and Dean enter their new Batcave.

  1. Aaw, man, another monster that’s pretty much a human due to budget constraints.
The dragons were weaksauce, this doesn’t look much better.

  2. Also, the show is more fun when they don’t have a fortified base to go back to all the time. It’s better when they’re just on the road. So I hope the Watchers’ Council burns down.

  3. i love this and its about time to-i love the hotel rooms -and really we don’t know if we will still see those or not- but they have been on the road for 8 years its time for them to have a home base that has everything they need to figure things out for themselves instead of asking for help.plus its a place that they can reach out to other hunters if they need to. i can see the last scene of the series in season 10 where the final shot pans up from the table with the map and we see all the chairs at all the tables are filled with hunters and dean and sam are the teachers/leaders.

  4. I think what we’re looking at is a guaranteed S10. If they spent this much money on a stage set, it means something.

Gosh, I didn’t think about losing the awful motel rooms. I would hate that. I always look at those to see what the set people came up with on every episode.

  5. I’am glad Dean found his Batcave and he can now play Batman and Sam …play his Robin ..but I was not pleased when Robert Singer said the brothers have not had a home to in 8 years….Like Really ..then WTH was Bobby’s place…and Bobby to the brothers….a father figure who shared his home with Sam & Dean for 7 seasons until the dumb ass showrunners and producers burnned Bobby’s house and killed Bobby off.

I think Robert Singer felt that Bobby was no longer needed and that his home for 7 seasons was just a Pit Stop for the brothers.

    Comment by ozzie — February 1, 2013 @ 9:00 pm

  6. Don’t care for Robert Singer. He is a disappointment to the show.

  7. I think they will still use the hotels rooms because not all jobs will be within a few hours drive. They will need this safe spot in the coming years. There are worse things coming than Crowley and Naomi. They will need all that info to stay alive and win this war that has not even started yet. both Sam and Dean will have to be in the fight which means they will need some one to be their Alfred in the bat cave feeding them info. sounds like a good job for Garth to me.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 8:22 am

  8. The Alfred could e a job shared by Garth, Castiel popping in and out and Charlie too…beause after season 4 Supernatural has become more a sci-fi fantasy comedy with a group of characters.

    Comment by ozzie — February 2, 2013 @ 8:40 am

  9. i was looking at the pictures from 8×14. and something dawned on me. the lady that is standing with dean and sam in with the long black hair-and also the one that is kissing him.-same lady. but she looks like the same lady that was deans girlfriend in “the end”. what do you guys think.???

    Comment by animal — February 2, 2013 @ 9:09 am

  10. I am pretty sure Cas is out of the running for Alfred because nothing supernatural can enter but the key, I think.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 9:28 am

  11. @ animal “one” of his girl friends in that episode does kind of look similar. That situation was funny as hell too. Uh apparently We had a thing. hahaha.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 9:32 am

  12. Moving Garth to boss of the hunters, diminishes what the show just did, which was elevate the Winchesters to hunter royalty in this last episode. Seriously? Garth?? I guess he can have the dual purpose of hunter boss and marriage counselor, because he’s just that special.

Moving Charlie to little sister Winchester successfully adds a female into the family and satisfies all those fanfic writers who want to insert themselves into the Winchesters lives.

Not what I wanted or would have expected from this show when I first started watching. I agree with ozzie that the show has moved from horror/drama to comedy/sci-fi. That must be Mark P’s wish to align it with the rest of the CW fare and Carver’s idea of the stamp he wants to put on the show.

@ animal: I don’t think this girl will be the love interest introduced for Dean. I think that will be later on in the series, like S9 or S10. She is, at least, attractive and appears hot, which is more than I can say for Amelia. She may even be a recurring, but I don’t think so, unless she shows up in S9 and they do decide that she’ll be Dean’s love interest. They could be planning on introducing that idea very slowly.

    Comment by Sheri — February 2, 2013 @ 9:43 am

  13. sheri-i wasn’t really saying she was going to be dean’s regular love interest. i just was stating that she kinda looks like dean’s love interest in “the end”.

AW-i know that episode is one of my favorites. both j’s acted beyond the normal “award show” honors level. they should have been nominated for something for that episode. “man i am getting hit for things i haven’t even done yet”. was my favorite funny line of that episode.

    Comment by animal — February 2, 2013 @ 11:46 am

  14. sheri- working the phones and dispatching jobs does not equate to hunter boss to me. To me that’s more a job for a smart hunter who can not perform the physical part of the job as well as others. Usually done by older should be retired hunters.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 12:43 pm

  15. Exactly, it should be a job for a ’smart’, competent hunter. Someone that can at least connect the dots. Garth was not introduced as smart. He was a cartoon hunter, and he still is. 14-year old Krissy was more competent that he was. He should have been dead on his first hunt.

They tried to rehabilitate him so they can use him as Bobby 2.0, but that doesn’t work for me. As I’ve said before, they don’t teach Latin in dental school, so what the hell is he going to do with ancient texts. I believe Sam and Dean have run into most everything that is out there, so what possible knowledge could Garth impart on them? If Sam and Dean haven’t seen it before, Garth certainly hasn’t.

    Comment by Sheri — February 2, 2013 @ 12:51 pm

  16. wow ok Garth was never shown as dumb and he would be surrounded by everything the men of letters knew how much more wisdom do you need. Garth has been shown in every episode he has appeared in as competent. Some people judge solely on looks but that to me is pretty short sighted I prefer to go by how they portray a character.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 2:41 pm

  17. Well, I’m not judging him on his looks, and I’ll agree that your ideal of competent and mine obviously vary a great deal.

Characters like Bobby, Rufus, Lee, Mackie, Roy, Walt, and even the hunters in Free To Be You and Me I can find believable. Garth, with his hot tubs, funny papers, zen, girl friend with twins, hand puppets, and houseboats, just to provide a laugh just don’t do a thing for me.

But, you know, we have Charlie, Mrs Tran, and teenage ninja prophet Kevin, so what’s one more in a sci-fi comedy.

    Comment by Sheri — February 2, 2013 @ 2:52 pm

  18. hahahaha teenage mutant ninja prophet now that is funny.

    Comment by AW — February 2, 2013 @ 3:01 pm

  19. Garth was introduced as silly, not as dumb. Besides, you can’t be stupid if you’re a dentist. And not everything about being a hunter is physical. Indeed, much of it is more about impersonation, investigation, and ritual.
That Garth has taken up the role of “Bobby” actually makes a lot of sense. He’s more of a Man of Letters type. He’s better suited to playing switchboard than to be pitted against vampires and demons.

    Comment by brx — February 2, 2013 @ 4:36 pm

  20. You’re right; hunting is more than impersonating, and he has been shown to be exceedingly socially inept; and investigating, which he’s never got right w/o the brothers’ help; and ritual, which he’s never used. But he’s got a sock puppet, doesn’t have enough sense to feel bad about anything in his whole entire life, and he does own a houseboat and has a normal life with a girlfriend and some twins. He’s doing much better than the Winchesters, when looked at in that light.

Dentist who killed THE tooth fairy aside, Garth is more suited to being dead than a switchboard operator in the SPNverse; but if you like him, you win, because he’s going to be forever on the show and I am going to forever hate the character.

  23. I’m totally with Sheri on this one. I do think Qualls has a certain gift for comedy and he is not a bad actor; there is a genuinely appealing quality about him. Can’t help but believe he is going to land a more steady job than an occasional appearance on SPN. I actually wish him well. But his character on SPN doesn’t work for me and Garth as Bobby 2 doesn’t work at all.

    Comment by CaseyT — February 2, 2013 @ 5:31 pm

  24. I agree, CaseyT. Qualls isn’t a bad actor and I don’t mind him at all, except on SPN. He has a limited range of portraying one character, as does Felicia Day, neither of which fits the SPNverse, and it really is the Bobby 2.0 that I don’t like at all.

    Comment by Sheri — February 2, 2013 @ 5:38 pm

  25. I agree, CaseyT. Qualls isn’t a bad actor and I don’t mind him at all, except on SPN. He has a limited range of portraying one character, as does Felicia Day, and that’s why they write episodes specifically for those two characters w/o regard to lead characterization or mytharc development. Neither of those two characters fit into the SPNverse, and it really is the Bobby 2.0 that I don’t like at all.

    Comment by Sheri — February 2, 2013 @ 5:39 pm

  26. What I’m hoping is that now that the guys have a homebase, they can feel safe, relax…and actually process at least some of the stuff they’ve gone through.
I’ve been willing to believe that the constant crisis mode they’ve been in has prevented it and over the yeasr they’ve become detached and emotionally stunted as a result…but wouldn’t it be grand altogether if we could get one little scene of the pair of them…just ,ya know..talking about something besides a ruddy case?? Just talking to each other about what’s been happening to them as humans?? Think it’ll happen??

    Comment by MEG — February 4, 2013 @ 7:31 pm

  27. If it has not happenned in 8 seasons …then don’t bet on it.

    Comment by ozzie — February 5, 2013 @ 4:32 am

  28. Well, I think it’s a mistake that they haven’t stopped and really had a conversation about everything that’s happened in the last year. Dean needs to let Sam( and us)understand what happened to him in Purgatory, and Sam needs to explain to Dean just why he didn’t look for him. I really want to believe he had a real good reason, that he didn’t just stop loving or caring about his brother. And
since Dean now understands how his text affected Sam, Sam needs to realize how his not looking for Dean really hurt him. And then hopefully, they can really start to mend their relationship. I don’t think it’s gonna work just pretending like those things didn’t happen.

    Comment by roxi — February 5, 2013 @ 5:19 am

  29. MEG–Wish that would happen also. Now they seem to speak honestly held feelings to each other only when they’ve bottled up something so long they can no longer contain it. They end up angrily shouting out their true feelings at the other one– who reacts to the anger, not the point being made. They end up only venting their anger, not communicating. I’d think any new viewer would be confused why these two spend any time together, much less be devoted to each other.

    Comment by CaseyT — February 5, 2013 @ 7:02 am

  30. Oh ozzie, I hope that’s not true….I agree, roxi, it’s ridiculous to pretend these things didn’t happen…I agree, CaseyT,about how the brothers have been ‘communicating” (not)…New viewers would indeed be confused…Why don’t the writers get a clue here?

    Comment by MEG — February 5, 2013 @ 12:17 pm

  31. Oh come on. Not having a homebase is half the point of the show. I was actually kind of glad when Bobby’s junkyard was made unsafe, you know?
Things don’t have the same feel when the boys get to rest in a familiar place. If you want that, watch Being Human

    Comment by brx — February 5, 2013 @ 3:50 pm

  32. Supernatural is about alienation and self-sacrifice. It has been since the first episode, where Sam’s girlfriend was killed. The boys will be on the road, tired and stressed, until the show ends. Or at least that’s how it should be.

    Comment by brx — February 5, 2013 @ 3:53 pm

  33. I think the show has given us all we’re going to get about what happened in the first nine episodes. Dean found clarity in the 360 degree fighting in Purgatory where he was relieved of worrying about all the crap that had happened over the past three years. Sam ‘imploded,’ having lost Dean and everyone he knew, so he ran. Dean admitted all fault in all the issues they had since 8.01 and Sam is….well, Sam, and now he is committed to the hunt because there is so much to do and he’s found a great new treasure trove of books and research material. I think that’s pretty much it. They are back together and both are committed to the hunt.

I’m not happy with that resolution, as Dean still thinks his life is crap and Sam skates once again without accepting responsibility for anything. But if the writers want to ignore the whole mess and move on to the potential of what was presented in this last episode, then I’m on-board…if they don’t waste the opportunity once again.

There’s supposed to be another ‘thing’ coming up in a future episode, but as I understand it, it’s not about the past issues; it’s something new…probably about which brother does the tests.

    Comment by Sheri — February 5, 2013 @ 3:53 pm

  34. I think we can have a bit of each—the on-the-road-all-the- time thing and the downtime thing….During the latter time is when I hope we see some real communicating…For Heaven sakes they’ve done it enough times before; it’s not as if they’re Neanderthals.
For whatever reason the writers have been (IMO) hyper focused on plot rather than giving the characters time and space to express and even emote..Maybe that will change?

    Comment by MEG — February 5, 2013 @ 4:52 pm

  35. Meg, maybe it’s because watching a tv show for it’s plotline is more appealing to some, rather than watching two guys kiss each other and talk about their feelings in every episode? Although I realize many of the regular commentators on this site would rather have the latter.

    Comment by muub — February 6, 2013 @ 4:31 am

  36. Nobody wants them to always talk about their feelings, but they’re brothers, and when one does something to really hurt the other, than yeah, it should be talked about instead of just swept under the rug. And then they can move on to the action.

    Comment by roxi — February 6, 2013 @ 6:19 am

  37. I think the batcave needs a cat. Named either ‘Singer’ (my preference) or Bobby Jr.

    Comment by t1gerlilly — February 6, 2013 @ 10:41 am

  38. Count me as one who has had way too much of the emo stuff after the past three years. Although I think Sam is in desperate need of a redemption storyline, I’m okay with the writers dropping the whole mess and moving on to the action.

@tigerlilly: I think the bat cave is going to have a pussy cat and his name is Garth.

    Comment by Sheri — February 6, 2013 @ 11:39 am

  39. I can’t wait for tonight’s episode to explore the boys new ‘Batcave’ with all its secrets of the ‘Men of Letters’ hidden inside it. Wow!! that’s gonna be very exciting ..As it’s mentioned that this new found ‘Bunker’ is going to be Sam and Dean new ‘Homebase’ for now ?? What about Bobby’s home ?? I bet Bobby would have been so delighted to learn about this ‘Men of letters’ mysterious ‘batcave’ and could help the boys with all the books of this massive library…I missed Bobby so much.. when are they going to bring him back ?? witchcraft or Cas mojo ..whatever, just bring Bobby back ..Please they boys need him..especially Dean !!They said that they will find a way to bring him back ..so come on guys ..it’s about time now before the end of this season we better see Bobby back !!!

  40. @Sheri - I know you’re not a big fan of Garth - but I can see him being a draw for new fans. Case in point - I FINALLY got one of my coworkers to watch supernatural (and I had to promise to watch an epi of a stupid sitcom - which I still haven’t done) and he watched the epi where Garth takes over as Bobby’s role - and his reaction was that Dean was a douche for the way he treated Garth. This guy is 6′3″, handsome, and really confident. You’d think he would identify with Dean - but not so much. He liked Garth because of his super friendliness. So he wrote the show off because he thought one of the two leads was a jerk. I was going to suggest he watch a Cas epi, but then Torn and Frayed happened. Sadly, his reaction was negative enough I don’t know when I”ll get the other guys to watch. If ever.
It really brought home to me how much SPN is NOT monster of the week TV. You need to watch for a while to really get the complexity of the characters. Also, this is why when the writers don’t bother to pay attention to the history of the show and screw with canon - you get episodes like Torn and Frayed, (in my opinion, the worst in the series).

    Comment by T1gerlilly — February 6, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

  41. They might have this hideout to return to, but since they’re always all over the country they still will have to stay in hotel rooms most of the time. Just like this next episode, from what I’ve read they’re on a ranch, and apparently they’re lodging there while they work on these tests. Not quite sure how staying on a ranch connects but whatever.

    Comment by roxi — February 8, 2013 @ 6:15 am

  42. 39. That would just cheapen Bobby’s death. In my opinion, it was a mistake to kill him off in the first place, but since they did it,they should have left him with the lovely sendoff they gave him in Death’s Door. Bringing him back as a ghost was pointless. They made a dumb decision, but now it’s best that they stick with it. Kinda ruins the power of character deaths when they keep coming back from the dead.
That’s why I feel that the series will end with Dean’s death, a final one. Over the past few seasons they’ve made a point of vocalizing and showing how continually cheating death when it’s our time to go, screwing with the natural order, causes so much chaos in the universe. This has really resonated with Dean, that’s why I feel they will have him having to make that choice. I’d rather see him go off with a female hunter/lover, but that probably won’t happen.
