Misha Collins Back as Series Regular for Season 9

Castiel is gonna be back on a more permanent basis next season. Misha Collins tweeted that he’s going to be a series regular for the recently announced ninth season of Supernatural. He was a regular for seasons 5 and 6, but only a guest star in seasons 4, 7 and 8. He only appeared in five episodes last season and has appeared in only five so far this year, but the promotion means a lot more Cas next year!

Also, THR is reporting that Misha will join the ranks of Jensen Ackles by directing an episode next season.

  1. Since the people who post here are Castiel/Misha haters and I’m sure will have nothing good to say, I will.
YAHHHHHH I’m so happy that Castiel will be back for more episodes!!!

You may now commence with the hating..

  3. Seriously? Again?

Personally, I would have prefered if Kevin the new profit became a regular. I’m starting to really like him.

  4. Personally (& I’m not a hater), I’m not thrilled by this news - I thought we saw him just about enough - I really loved Castiel in the first couple of seasons he appeared but he is a little bit meh now!

  5. Don’t get me wrong, I love Castiel, but he’s too powerful. Too much deus ex machina and twisting the plot to account for his abilities

  7. Good for Misha and spn hopefully this means he kicks Naomis arse before the end of the season.

  8. I really like Cas, but I most prefer him as a guest and not a regular.

  9. I like Castiel but there should be no “regulars” except for Dean and Sam. Bobby wasn’t even a “regular”. With all the “guest stars” over the last few seasons getting so much focus and air time sometimes it seems like Jensen and Jared are suporting actors in their own series.

But if I can’t have Bobby, I would rather have Cas than anyone else.

    Comment by SL — February 25, 2013 @ 2:54 pm

  10. Mmmm…..

Write him the right way, curb some of his power, limit some of his abilities…have him help our boys in their story rather than make the story about him……

(Hey, it’s possbile! I mean, new show runner and all.)

And if it’s true the actors want less screen time, maybe having Cas on board, involved in the storyline will cut down of the constant stream of guest stars.

I’d rather be invested in a Cas story then the random guest star I’ll probably never see again.

    Yup, I’m ok with that.

Now, find a way to bring back Bobby and prophet Chuck.

  11. I like Castiel, but agree w/those who think he should be a recurring/guest star.

Castiel’s presence made sense in S4, but I remember thinking he was overused in S5. I thought he was used well in S6, S7, and now in S8.

  14. People, you’re assuming Castiel will be the same as he is now. Also, “TV regular” doesn’t mean you’re in 22 or 18 episodes in a season. All it means is 13 minimum, name in the main credits, and a certain salary. We still have 7 episodes left of THIS season, so that’s a lot of story that could define exactly what Cas is or isn’t in season 9.

As for Jared and Jensen - having 2 people carry a series is exhausting, and they’re new fathers. Do you want to work 18 hours a day, or see your baby’s first steps? Another actor to share the burden is a good thing.

    Comment by Kim — February 25, 2013 @ 5:47 pm

  15. Animal, I’m not the biggest Cas fan out there.
That being said, I wont judge next season based on this tid bit of news. I think we need to finish up S8 to find out what kind of place we are going to be in once S9 starts up.

    Comment by Thomas A — February 25, 2013 @ 7:13 pm

  16. I think Collins directing will be to take Jensen’s place …since he is gonna be busy welcoming his baby girl and too… thats why Collins will be a regular too…to be in eppies …more ..so JA can have more daddy time.

Collins thanked Gambles like 2 seasons ago when his son West was born..because she gave him time to be at home with his baby.

    Comment by ozzie — February 25, 2013 @ 7:48 pm

  17. Looks like they are building an ensemble cast, what with all the recurring guest stars (Garth, Kevin, Charlie, and Benny will be back, I bet).

Personally, I think if the J2s screen time has been very limited last year and this year. I couldn’t imagine them having any less screen time than they do now and still be considered leads in their own show.

For instance, notice how many scenes they are not in together, off doing separate investigating. That’s because they don’t have to film at the same time, with one getting time off while the other is working. Then having them on the phone talking to each other gives the appearance of being together.

    Comment by Sheri — February 25, 2013 @ 8:53 pm

  18. One day Jensen and Jared will be listed as Guest Stars in their own show.

    Comment by SL — February 25, 2013 @ 9:25 pm

  19. OUCH! But so true @SL.

    Comment by ozzie — February 25, 2013 @ 9:54 pm

  20. Well, what’cha gonna do?

Behind the screen facts aren’t widely known, leading us to speculate.

If splitting screen time between the 2J’s, thereby reducing the amount of minutes they appear on screen together gives us more seasons, I say….fine.

I invest in a story, a plot, a theme. Yes, being fond of an actor is what may draw me to a show to begin with, (** cough, Kevin Bacon, The Following, cough **) I don’t deny that, but I can also say I will not stay with the show just because of the actor if I no longer like the storyline.

I hate referencing comparisons, but here I go regardless.

I loved Angel on Buffy, loved Angel, followed David B to Bones and watched faithfully until he and Booth had a baby. Their relationship didn’t float my interst and I stopped watching.

They nearly lost me in Season Six, what with Soul-less Sam and dishtowel-on-my-shoulder Dean. I did stop watching live, gotta love DVR’s don’t we?

It’s not usual to have two leads without a strong supporting cast with visual presence, is it? Is there any other show that’s been on 8 years with only two leads in every show, filling practically every moment of the episode?

It simply isn’t realistic to expect that, even if it’s what we might wish for.

I like Castiel and Benny and Kevin and Crowley. I liked Bobby and Rufus and Ellen and Jo. Not too fond of Charlie, can take or leave Garth, but I, for one, like a supporting cast.

    Ehrm, a strong supporting cast!

  21. @thomas-really -you don’t know where this is going and how this season is going to end??? and what season 9 is going to be about?? come on man-you know the spoilers, and you know what singer, carver, edlund have said about cas.

the cliff hanger for season 8 will be mainly about cas - again - whether he is dead or not from a blow out with naomi and/or crowley reguarding the hell gate and/or heaven tablet. sam will be part of that as well. is sam dead from his trials.because the writers seem to write sam and cas on parallel stories. what one went thru the other usually goes thru. so there lives will both be in question at the end of season 8. season 9 will open with both being fine-but cas deleted of most of his angel mojo. because the writers know fans didn’t like the all powerful angel. the angel tablet will be the focus of season 9 and about cas getting the gates closed. dean will be cas’ pet/love interest. look to this seasons “a slice of kevein” on how those interactions are going to be between the two of them. not sure about sams role in season 9-maybe some after effects of the trials maybe. but thomas don’t be fooled-season 9 is going to be all about castiel.

hey look-i lasted longer than i intended. i was going to stop watching after trial and error. but that was such a wonderful throw back to s1-s3 that i hoped the show would continue on in that fasion. but we got this news. you can’t have vintage supernatural with an angel in the line up full time-powered up or not. doesn’t interest me.

i am going to watch this week, benny’s return episode, and the finale-just to see how close i am in my prediction. then i will be done. maybe s10-doubt it though. collins is signed for 10 as well.

    Comment by animal — February 26, 2013 @ 3:48 am

  22. Mean nothing to me. I desist Castiel and like Misha Collins even less and except for the fact that Sam is back to being king asshat it’s been nice with just the boys.

    Comment by Lugilla Brown — February 26, 2013 @ 3:51 am

  23. @ Auggie #20: Keifer Sutherland managed to be in almost every scene of “24″, and that show had a whole lot more demanding action scenes than SPN ever has had.

If the recurring characters Singer/Carver brought in were interesting, full-developed characters, I wouldn’t mind so much. But these no-nothing, exposition, cutesy characters have changed the whole tone of the show and are BORING. And giving one-shots (the Bitten crew and this latest James/Portia) whole episodes is ridiculous, and giving Cas a whole mytharc in S6 and whole episodes to himself is, again, boring.

Cas’s whole appeal is his relationship with Dean, but often those episodes are written to where Dean is his support character. For instances, what was learned about Dean or Sam in The Man Who Would Be King? Nothing. That was all about Cas, revealing the mytharc was Cas’ fall.

I have liked S4Cas/Dean this season more than I’ve liked anything about Sam/Dean, but with him becoming a regular again, he’ll either be powerful, fix-all angel or human Winchester angel in the back seat of the Impala. If S9 is about the angel tablets, it’s most likely the Winchesters will be the support characters. I say this, because the writers for this show are not that talented and have shown a truly remarkable lack of creativity.

I’m going to watch this week because of Benny (I think he’ll be in it, won’t he?) and because with a 3-week hiatus coming up, there should be some sort of a mini-cliffhanger (I would think). I hope it’s more than a close-up of Sam suffering from a bloody nose and a few coughs and Dean’s concerned close-up look.

  24. Would guess it’s a move to give J2 less work; certainly Castiel appears to have no real impact on ratings. Would guess those recent J2 heavy episodes are the last time they will carry the series; have got to believe with this announcement, the Castiel-angel story will be big in the last episodes of 8 as a bridge to a angel-heavy 9. Got to believe Dean’s time is now locked down for next year and probably the rest of season 8. Dean always plays second lead in Castiel’s doings. Sam’s never had to largely serve the Castiel story so perhaps he’ll have some stories worth watching. And, I guess Jared will have time to go back to testing his movie appeal in this new three featured players arrangement. Of the three he seems more interested in acting and less in a behind the camera career.
5 and 6 were my least favorite seasons; just can’t take much of Collins or his character or the diversion of Dean to play to Castiel or the slash based foolishness or the de-emphasis of the humans fighting evil for Charmed-inspired retread CW fantasy featuring Castiel. The Winchester boys story is winding down, inevitable in long running series. I guess it makes sense to feature them less and less in favor of Collins and guest stars. J2 certainly deserve less time; they’ve earned that. Lucky for me, Collins consistently telegraphs which episodes he will be heavy in and which episodes he is absent from, so it will be easy to skip those episodes. I’m going to need a gradual withdrawal from the series anyway so feeling no need to view SPN each week will probably be a good move for me.

    Comment by CaseyT — February 26, 2013 @ 6:05 am

  25. @ CaseyT: A gradual withdrawal from the series is exactly where I am at. I skipped last week’s episode (and from what I read, that was a good move on my part). I’ll skip the upcoming Charlie and Krissy ones, too. It’s looking like this week’s episode might feature the guest stars more than the brothers, with them concentrating on Sam’s increasing health issues, but it’s either this one or the next one that has Benny in it, and I don’t want to miss Benny. However, if he’s a needy friend calling for his AA advisor again, I’m afraid I’ll be done with him, too.

Pick and choose does seem like the way to go these days.

  26. Hi guys again.
Does anybody but me question why they ever brought up the all powerful little boy, Jesse, who was supposedly more powerful than either angels or demons, who could have obliterated the universe at will, only to never mention him again? You know, when Michael and Lucifer were starting their crap, when Cas went nuts, became’God’ and murdered most of Heaven?I mean, wouldn’t he have been a very powerful weapon?
And now, with all this with the Hell tablets and Heaven tablets and closing the gates etc. you’d think SOMEBODY would remember him.
This last episode, I can’t believe that Jensen and Jared even agreed to be a part of it. Never mind that it was one of the worst episodes ever, but worse than that, it was one of the most offensive. To women,to Black women in particular, hell, even to dogs. I fail to understand how anybody involved, including the Js, were totally unaware of it.
As for Misha, I like him, but no, not happy with the news that he will be a co lead with the boys. To me, Jensen already has been reduced to a supporting player and now, I fear he’ll get even less in the way of any story. If anybody deserved to be a co lead, it was Jim Beaver and they denied him. I guess he didn’t have enough sex appeal. We must remember this is the CW.

  27. You know, all y’alls quitting Supernatural would go a lot better for everybody if you quit stinking up the community, too.

    Comment by brx — February 26, 2013 @ 7:28 am

  28. I heard that Jim Beaver didn’t want to be a co-lead, that it meant to much time away from his daughter; with the series being shot in Vancouver and all.

As for Misha, I like him fine and know of some who would be extremely happy at this turn of events. I am to a point. I mean it’s nice the J’s will get more time away but as some have said they already feel like supporting cast members. Will have to wait and see what shakes out with this.

    Comment by Aislinn — February 26, 2013 @ 7:59 am

  29. I guess J2 were not aware of the ep being offensive because it wasn’t. Please tell me were you offended as a witch or a familiar.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 8:15 am

  30. I do understand why some long-standing viewers would opt to skip some episodes. The show has declined greatly over the last few years. Sadly, all long-running series do go downhill eventually.

But I won’t miss a single episode while Jensen and Jared are still on the show. And ONLY because Jensen and Jared are on the show.

The writing is HORRIBLE and the showrunner is running a show that is NOT Supernatural.

And Sam has been written the entire season like a completely different character. I don’t like that at all.

But I won’t see Jensen or Jared anywhere else so I am sticking here as long as they are on the show.

Sadly I will have to ff my episodes to get to see Jensen and Jared more and more with each episode but as long as they are there, I will be.

Even when I hate some things about it. And I won’t mind stating what those things are either.

    Comment by SL — February 26, 2013 @ 8:53 am

  31. 29-AW You really didn’t think it was offensive? Are you a woman? Because the idea of a woman being a man’s inferior, and it being a black woman to boot, complete with a collar, is indeed offensive to many of us.
But aside from that, it was just a terrible episode.

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 9:35 am

  32. Why would it be offensive that a black actress gets a role in a popular TV show no not offensive. Also they never said anything about inferior or superior. This is an examplke of people transposing their own insecurities onto a TV show that did nothing to offend anyone. So all those hot chics that wore collars at my high school were offensive cause I kinda thought it was hot. I think distinguishing between women and black women is more offensive than anything spn has ever broadcasted.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 9:55 am

  33. AW- ok, I get that you don’t see it. But please recognize that a lot of other people do.
Are you calling ME the offensive one? Really?
Yes, she was a beautiful woman. No argument there. But I’ve read many comments by Black female fans and yes, they WERE offended.
As a woman, I found it offensive. As an animal lover, I also found it offensive.
But what I think we can both agree upon is that it was an awful episode. Unless you disagree with that as well.

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 10:08 am

  34. And I am offended that you are calling me a racist. I am NOT.

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 10:09 am

  35. I would say to you and all of them that if you were offended by anything in that episode then your far to sensitive to things that were meant to be seen as just another part of a sci-fi TV show. The episode had nothin to do with race that is all in your point of few which I can only guess is skewed by some mean thing someone did to you or them. you keep saying it was offensive but what was offensive cause I cant see it.

first she was black why does that matter.

second she called him master common term for a dogs human companion. nothing to do with slaves

third she had a collar, because she was a dog.
I believe there is clearly another agenda attached to this line of thinking and this was just an excuse to bring this garbage up again.

IT really does a disservice to those who have suffered from real offensive behavior when you all cry wolf over every stupid thing.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 10:21 am

  36. @ AW: I’m the last person in the world who feels any quilt for what happened hundreds of years ago, but I have to say: Are you serious? You see nothing wrong with anyone, especially an Afro-American, being bound to a white ‘master,’ given not only America’s racial past, but the world’s racial past. That speaks nothing to you, except coincidence that a black woman was cast in the role?

Philippe the gay cat said that, as a familiar, he was bound to do whatever his master wanted him to do. That doesn’t suggest to me that the woman had any more free will than he did, which was none, or that there was any familiar free will involved in the relationship.

You see nothing wrong with BDSM, as the couple did have bondage sex on-screen. From what I have read, the man was chained to a bed, wasn’t he?

The woman had a collar on because she was a dog, so you see nothing wrong with bestiality? Some reviewers said that the woman wore the dog collar even when she was in her human persona. So, if she was a dog, switched to a woman so it worked better, that’s still icky bestiality, and a lot of states (if not all) have laws against that sort of perverted sex.

The disservice done here is not speaking for people of color, it’s the incredible lack of morality shown by those who are not offended — especially the two writers of this episode, one of which was a woman.

    Comment by Sheri — February 26, 2013 @ 11:14 am

  37. I can’t believe I’m jumping in on this, but…

    I wasn’t offended.
    I didn’t see racisim.

When I pick my dog or cat up from the groomers, the overly-perky receptionist coos… “Look Fluffy, your master’s here to get you.”

I saw the episode as dog/human relationship. Never, not once, did slavery cross my mind while doing jumping jacks to stay awake during that….erhm, hour of…television.

When the actress received the script, I would hope she had the option to back out of doing the episode if she were in anyway, uncomfortable.

So, yeah, I pretty much agree with AW here.

  40. Sam had sex with a werewolf was that offensive also she said she choose him and was free to leave when ever she wanted watch the show before commenting second hand knowledge is crap. The man was chained to the bed so he couldn’t antone else because he was the suspect.and if people want to chain each other up how can that offend you it has nothing to do with you. Stay the hell out of their bedroom if you dont like it.and the gay cat was a wuss not a slave he could choose but wouldn’t. plus she wasn’t a real dog she was a witch so no beastiality there either. placing race as a topic when it was in no way even discussed in the show is just pandering due to ignorance.

Never watched 24. Was it a good show with no supporting cast? I looked it up, went 8 seasons so it must have been, huh? I see where you referred to Keifer being dominant in most scenes, but did he carry the action and dialogue all on his own?

    Wow.

  42. And I’m also a crazy cat lady; I love animals. The dog was a beauty. The only good thing about Sam’s awful Amelia story, to me, was Riot. I do wish Sam could get him back.

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 11:52 am

  43. Okay so here we go:
Racism in this show, in my own opinion, doesn’t exist. If it did, I missed it. Did we forget about S1 when Dean rekindled an old flame with a black girl? There have been countless times when white people have been put into roles as well as black people. White demons and black demons both serving other masters. Black and white vampires. In fact, the alpha was black and had white vampires working for him. Should we assume they are playing favorites for black people? No. But when someone is stupid enough to think that a collar worn by a dog is indicative of slavery being an underlying message, they feel the need to make unassumed guesses and assumptions. Which leads to heated debates.

I’m not saying slavery wasn’t (and still isn’t) an issue. In this country, black people were slaves, but they weren’t the only slaves. Native Americans, African Americans, and poor immigrants were all subjected to slavery at some point. Yet I don’t hear anyone raising a ruckus when an Irish person is depicted in a certain manner. The collar was to make the relation that she was the same dog. It was an identifying feature. Master is a common form of saying who owns the dog. Think of Up. Doug calls Mr. Frederickson his “master.” I don’t think the PTB at SPN have a secret agenda for slavery, nor do I think they are trying to leave subtle hints. I know most role castings allow the actor/actress to read the script. She had the right to pick if she wanted that role.
On an unrelated note, yet still related I guess: I thought she was the hottest girl on the show for the past few seasons.

  44. Whatever AW your arguments to me don’t hold up. I am not so politically correct that some racial things don’t bug me but this: what can I say, it sucked.
I am NOT a racist, and it pisses me off no end that you are implying this.

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 11:57 am

  45. @ roxie you made a statement that showed clear racial bias I never called you a racist but simply stated that what you said was racist.” a black woman to boot” who cares if she is black how does it matter that your native american I’m a unicorn farting rainbows can I put on a collar or not please tell me so I know all knowing nonracist.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 11:58 am

  46. As a black woman, I was NOT offended by Portia. I was more grossed out w/the idea of them sleeping together than anything else.

Do I understand why some would take offense? Sure. She’s a black woman calling a white man her “master.” I get it, but I also understand that many people are “masters” of their pets. The actress who played Portia was great. Plus, she did her own thing. She seemed fairly independent to me.

  47. I think Misha (Jensen, too) is smart for wanting to get into directing. It doesn’t hurt to be able to do another job in the insecure entertainment industry.

I am on the fence about Cas. I have liked him this year but I worry along with others that the angel story often takes over to the determent of Sam and Dean’s stories.

I won’t go anywhere though. I am in for the long haul with this show. Too many years invested not to see how it all turns out.

  48. I am NOT a freakin racist!! And I am pissed as HELL that you accuse of that AW!!

    Comment by roxi — February 26, 2013 @ 12:48 pm

  49. @ Auggie #41: 24 did have a great supporting cast, but Keifer carried the show and the show never lost track of the fact that he was the lead character…and he was in almost every scene.

I think Castle is the same, except with two leads. I’ve only caught portions of episodes here and there, but when I did, Castle and the lady lead were in almost every scene. I can’t speak to what their standing support characters are, though.

@ Thomas A. #43: Invoking racism isn’t to the point. It’s something that’s thrown out there to deflect an argument.

No one even implied that SPN has been a racist show. In fact, I think the show has done very well in casting different ethnicities. What we are talking about is the relationship between a half person/half dog familiar. Dean having a half-black girlfriend is not offensive at all, nor does it matter what ethnicity is a doctor, lawyer, baker, or scuzzball.

I didn’t watch the episode, but from her pictures, I would agree that she was one hot, lovely lady.

For those who think that Portia was independent and exercised free will, it’s like saying that a Chinese woman who paid someone to come to the U.S. and finds herself as a sex slave to pay off her debt has free will, because she willingly entered into an agreement with her ‘pimp’ (or whatever you call them). She was the detective’s familiar — they were meant to be together…would die for each other. One per customer.

Portia showed independence and was aggressive, because she was a Doberman dog. That’s the characteristic she was bringing to the role. But Phillipe definitely said that he HAD TO OBEY the commands of his master. Portia said she chose the detective because they were ’soul mates who would die for each other.’ That doesn’t change the fact that she has to obey her ‘master.’ Even a dog can run away from a cruel master — don’t often, I think, but can.

Nor does her being black affect the image of slavery or submissiveness. She could have been white, pink, yellow or purple and she would have still been in the same situation, under the obligation to obey the commands of her master per narrative.

  50. per narrative she stated herself she comes and goes as she pleases like I said do not bring second hand knowledge watch the show or don’t but don’t post about what you don’t know.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 1:39 pm

  51. @ #50 AW: Comes and goes as she pleases as a dog or a human, but not comes or goes as a familiar to whomever she pleases. Familiars are familiars and they all follow the same rules. Phillipe was second example.

Read the transcripts if you didn’t catch that part, and bullying doesn’t work with me, nor does slinging the overused word ‘racist’ around. Both are something one choses to accept or not, and I choose not to accept. Consider that as an example of free will.

    Comment by hw — February 26, 2013 @ 2:46 pm

  55. AW-its not that it was or was not racist ect…of the story thathave people in an uproar. it was the IMAGERY that is the problem here. it was what the IMAGE of a black woman in a collar with a white master envokes. or the man handcuffed in bed while having sex-and what the IMAGE envokes. do you understand????

    Comment by animal — February 26, 2013 @ 2:47 pm

  56. infact the supernatural writers have seemed to want to cause controversy with thier imagery this season. The same goes with dean and the gay/bi imagery we have been getting all season. we are being played by the writers people. they like it when the ruffle our feathers.

    Comment by animal — February 26, 2013 @ 2:59 pm

  57. I understand imagery and I also understand that these political special interest groups had their minds made up and there guns locked and loaded every since the title was released. they have been waiting to start crap and did not even watch the show. Its all crap trying to manufacture hate where there is none.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

  58. I think everyone needs to step up and stop the charade pick a side do you see color or not you all talk about being colorblind but all this because she is a black woman but what if she was green you all are not making sense. this is the problem and that was not the first time someone has been restrained on this show but now its a problem I don’t see it. sorry.

    Comment by AW — February 26, 2013 @ 3:06 pm

  59. well blame the writers AW-they are the ones that pushed those buttons for the activists to attack. but if you understand the imagery-then you have to understand roxi’s concern/distaste for that imagery. its a legitimate concern on her part. this story could have easily been told without the controversial imagery that the writers/producers envoked in that episode. we have had people/dogs in bed with humans before. (that skinwalker episode) there was no controversy because the imagery didn’t insult the viewer. -although the shower scene made me go yuk!! lol. i think if they didn’t put the collar on the actress, and left the besialtiy bullcrap off screen-it would have went over a little better.

    Comment by animal — February 26, 2013 @ 3:06 pm

  60. do i think people are too sensitive to things that they needn’t be?? yes. Porcha was a dynamic character that did what she wanted/ thought what she wanted. and would have killed for it. it was just an episode that was done in poor taste. period.

  62. Roxie: I don’t think you are a racist.

Reading through these posts here I have to say I just didn’t view things the way alot of people did.

I was not offended by any “racial” or “gay” or “bdsm” things in this episode. That is not what I got out of this.

The dog was beautiful, the guest actor and guest actress were attractive, and I knew right from the get go who the evil witch was here.

What I “got” from this episode of the show was that Sam accused Dean of not trusting him and then Sam hid something very important from Dean.
That’s what I got from this episode.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone here. Just saying that is what I took from this.

    Comment by SL — February 26, 2013 @ 3:25 pm

  63. @Sheri

Massive 24 fan here. One of only a handful of shows that I own all of on DVD and I’ve seen it all the way through several times. Trust me when I say that Kiefer was in no way in every scene, every episode. In fact some episodes were extremely low on Bauer time.

They were really clever about how they disguised it, having Bauer out in the field whilst splitting episode time between the political stuff, the bad guys and CTU, but nevertheless there were many episodes where you were lucky to get fifteen minutes of Kiefer.

I’d say that Jared and Jensen deserve the same allowances after nearly a decade of fronting a show so bring on a strong supporting cast. Supernatural will always belong to the Winchesters regardless.

  71. Look for those of you who were offended by the imagery in man’s best friend with benefits. Try being a conservative republican woman watching this show who also happens to be catholic. Yea-i could have gotten offended plenty of times thru the years but i didn’t. only until recently where it all just came to a head-and i can’t do it anymore with this show. especially with collins coming back and how collins and jensen play off each other. jensen woosifies his character and collins plays cas more female than male. and the asassination of the catholic faith-can’t handle it anymore either. and if i hear one more bad mouthing of a republican -well i won’t because i wont’be watching anymore.

  75. Roxie you make me laugh- in a GOOD way! Keep posting and keep sticking up for the boys.

Personally I have to laugh at how anyone gets political statements/agendas from this show. Its SUPERNATURAL! It amazes me how someone can read political/religious attacks as Dean and Sam fight creatures and spirits and angels and demons- and each other! To me, some people are way too sensitve and are looking way too hard to find fault with something.

I’m honest: I watch it for Jensen and Jared. That is simple (and maybe shallow to some) but it is true.

Politics and religion never come into it for me.

What the hell??? angel -suicide-what kind of message is that sending to anyone out there who doesn’t feel good about themselves?? that if an angel feels like that then hell-………

You know its easy to sit on your high horse isn’t it ?when its not your beliefs or your politcal party thats not being made fun of. I would love to take you on SL in a political debate. i would have you crying in a corner muttering nonsense. But then that would mean i care about who and what you are and what you believe in -and i don’t. but i doubt that any of your convictions are ones that you came up with on your own. that what you believ in is because someone else had the thougth first. you probably don’t have an original thought in your head. this place isn’t a place for political discussion-so i am not going there. and honey-i didn’t attack anyone at anytime in my post. 79. Animal:You are a sad idiot, aren’t you? I never mentioned anyone’s name or post in my post. I was actually referring to a post made earlier by AW in reference to “political special interest” groups.

But, since you showed what you really are I must say you are a good representative of your Catholic repugnant upbringing.

Always quick to attack anyone who may have a different view than yours.

You don’t know anything about me. I have don’t discuss religion and politics and that is what I was saying in my post. This is a FICTIONAL ENTERTAINMENT show. It has NO political or religious “agenda”.

But as I can see clearly from your conservative, Catholic repugnant mind you see conspiracy in everything around you.

Yes, hon, I would love to debate you ina political forum. But that would mean you would have to climb out of your ass and face a REAL person and not hide behind a computer screen.

“Assbutt?” Is that what your Mother called you? I can clearly see why.

What a total piece of offensive idiocy you are.

When you first mentioned you wouldn’t be watching next season I actually was disappointed. Several of your posts about the show have been good ones.

But seeing what an idiot you really are PLEASE GO! And take your idiot religious views and political conspiracy views with you.

    Comment by SL — February 26, 2013 @ 8:28 pm

  80. Wow, some of the posters here are really stooping to new lows. The insults are horrendous, the narrow mindedness appalling. People see what they want to see. Just because one doesn’t see attacks on religious or political parties is no reason to attack. I’m an atheist, democrat, so perhaps my view is different than someone who is a republican/religious person. I could care less what the bible says since to me it is just a book written by men a long time ago, but to someone who believes in it, they might find SPN somewhat hard to take. I’m glad that I can view the show without all lot of baggage (so to speak).

I will disagree that Jensen woosyfies his character. Nope, don’t see it. His Dean depiction is a strong as ever. Dean has never been shown as gay, bi, or interested in Cas. Lord, it is ok for 2 men to have a real close relationship without being gay (or I’d better take a second look at my brother’s friendships!). Dean was taken aback when he thought he was being hit on by a man, it did not mean he is gay or bi. But if people want to view it differently than me, that is their prerogative.

This thread has really degenerated to being painful to read.

    Comment by twinster — February 26, 2013 @ 8:36 pm

  81. I think we need to get the spelling of wussifies right. Every time you guys spell it I keep thinking he’s making his character woozy. Which could be kind of entertaining. I don’t think we’ve ever seen Dean as a happy drunk. Happy drunken dancing Dean would be awesome - preferably singing “pour some sugar on me” at the top of his lungs.

I disagree-which we can agree to disagree -but there are religious/political overtones at times. but like i said i let most of it go-it was the suicide thing that started me off. and you need to learn to discuss disagreements instead of attacking right off the bat. but i apologize if infact you weren’t addressing me for my rant at you. however i take offense to the rupugnant remark ect…??? but hey thats to be expected by narrow minded people-it says alot about you though. just sayin.

tigerlilly-you are so right about wussifies. sometimes fingers go faster than brain. but yes a woozy dean would be funny. we kinda saw that in the beer episode with garth. funny.

and no aero-no discussion about politics or religion by me.-just tried to make a point about being offended by things but because of poor protocol by SL it got blown out of porportion. I am truely a minority here so when i posted about what and who i am i figured i would get a reaction. but sl-said her remark wasn’t at me-so its done.

  85. I don’t think Collins being a regular means he will be in all 23 eppies next season …cause that would just be a major fail on Singer & Carver’s side.

I think too the Collins news is because Jensen will be in less eppies or in less screen time due to him being a new father and wanting more off time from SPN to be with his baby girl.

    Comment by ozzie — February 27, 2013 @ 4:41 am

  86. Animal: You ATTACKED me and have the nerve to say I used “poor protocol”? “Assbut” is typical proper language by you? You can see where the repugnant comes from, can’t you?

You immediately assumed that I was commenting on your post because- I guess- your post is the only post on here?

I do laugh at that. Most of the posts you have made here about the SHOW I have agreed with. And I truly was disappointed when you said you were giving up on the show. That is one of the reasons I wrote an earlier post (#30). And my post to AW (#61) was never answered so I referred to it again in my later post (#75).

But YOU swung right in and called me names and attacked my “own” beliefs (I know I do wonder how you know those since you don’t know me).

Have to admit I did not see that kind of behavior coming from you.

And then you have the nerve to call ME “narrow-minded”? Have you read your own words and looked in the mirror lately?

So don’t go blaming me for your rabid rant and don’t attack me for responding in kind.

And you really should keep your religious and political views out of these posts. First, it causes you to recklessly attack others and second it has no place in a thread about a Fictional Entertainment show.

  95. This show has made a few political statements before, but I’m a Democrat/Progressive so they didn’t bother me.

I’m also a Christian and would consider myself a religious person. That said, I never liked the idea of the Winchester gospel. The Bible is a complete document. I also didn’t care for any of the comments about God or the show’s portrayal of God.

Now, having written all that, I never stopped watching. I see the show as entertainment. My religious beliefs are strong and remain the same. I can understand why some may be more offended than others.

Everyone has their own perspectives and opinions, which is fine.

  97. I’m tired of Angeles, really tired, this series is turning into a series about angels, rather than a series of supernatural hunters. Angeles already served its purpose and they must had disappeared a few seasons ago. I have nothing against Misha Collins I don’t want to be misunderstand , but his character served his purpose and is done, he did his job, why they not give him a dignified end.
I hope this season (S8) the boys close the gates of hell and if possible also the havean’s too and leave well closed, and I hope in S9 return to hunt supernatural things and let the angels where they belong, on other place like haven.

  98. AW (#94): Thank You for your response to my question.
I am like you: I watch the show for entertainment and enjoyment. I do not look (or see) any religious insults or political agendas here. Perhaps, because- like I said- I am not looking for them. Why would I? It is a show about the “Supernatural”.
I will watch every episode until the show goes off the air. Many episodes I have not liked but I watch them anyway. Because Jensen and Jared are on them. And they are the reason I have been watching this show non-stop for the past 8 seasons.

    Comment by SL — February 27, 2013 @ 10:09 am

  99. The past few seasons, most of the episodes without Castiel have sucked anyway (especially filler episodes), so I’m okay with this.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing Supernatural take on the storytelling style of Vampire Diaries — break seasons into chapters with every episode building to something, hence no real filler.

    Comment by Doug — February 27, 2013 @ 10:20 am

  100. Wow, a lot of hostility here. I thought that type of thing was on the decline. To bad I was wrong but then if you start discussing politics and religion hostility is bound to rise.

I don’t pay a great deal of attention to American politics. I don’t know the difference between a democrat and a republican so I can’t way in there. On the other hand I am quite religious (Catholic) and at times have been offended by how God, Heaven, and Angels have been depicted. However, “Supernatural” is entertainment. It would be inconceivable to think that all the writers, directors and producers hold the religious views presented on the show or are trying to convince anyone that this is an accurate representation of God, Heaven or Angels.

What the actors believe is their business, what the writers and others, believe is their business, and what we believe is our business. What is being presented on “Supernatural” is to provide Sam and Dean with antagonists, to create conflict to provide them with something more to fight. In making Heaven and it’s hosts hostile they have eliminated an alie that could have brought the apocalypse to an end. This unsympathetic representation was merely a means to an end and not intended to be a statement of any kind. Can we please leave it at that?

If we could all keep our personal business to ourselves and respect each others privacy I think there would be a lot less unpleasantness on this site.

animal, I don’t recall Castiel saying anything about suicide. Could you give me the details?

    Comment by Haley 56 — February 27, 2013 @ 10:26 am

  101. @Haley - in Hunter Heroici - in the ‘talk to me’ scene, Castiel says he feels such guilt over what he did in heaven while he was ‘bad’, that he is afraid that if he goes back to Heaven - as Dean has asked him to - that he might kill himself.

  102. Incidentally, based on some clues from a twitter from Jim Michaels, some people are speculating that Gabriel is coming back and that he’s been messing with the boys.
@AW - so you might have been right all along about the beginning of the season.
Personally - I love the idea that they might do a more ambitious retcon, and have everything since season 4 have been of gabriel’s making. That way we’d get back bobby, ellen, jo, rufus, etc. We’d be back on the apocalypse track, but that wouldn’t be so bad. Hell, I can totally see them going through with it - but then god coming in at the last moment and halting it, and then the boys (and Cas, now with a shiny new soul) saving people and smiting things through a wartorn post-apocalyptic landscape.
    Well, a girl can dream.

Post apocalyptic “Supernatural” sounds exciting, not to mention having Gabriel back. I have to admit I preferred him as a trickster. Gabriel as an Archangel presents the same problem as Castiel and worse. He’s too powerful, they both are.

Still, the prospect of the boys traveling the country trying to cope with the fall out of Armageddon is tantalizing.

    Comment by animal — February 27, 2013 @ 2:36 pm

  108. My problem with SPN, the Bible, the Winchester Gospel, angels, etc., is cleared up in “The French Mistake,” one of my favorite episodes. In our reality, SPN is just a TV show - not real. In Sam and Dean’s reality, SPN’s version of magic, angels, demons, the Bible, Revelations, Armegeddon, etc., are real. We in this reality don’t really need to debate religion, etc., portrayed on the show because it doesn’t even exist here. We don’t even have magic here. We in this reality probably shouldn’t care about people’s beliefs in other realities.

  110. Without Castiel on Supernatural… it’s a “Mojo-free zone” and there’s “No magic in the house” [quotes from "The French Mistake" (and, please keep writing episodes often, Mr. Edlund].

  113. that’s great news this means he will be in atleast half of the episode…hopfully the plot is great and he doesn’t always come to the rescue of the winchesters ass. but I liked him as a regular in Season 5 and 6 and thought he wasn’t present enough in sesason 7.

  117. Firstoff, thatnk you Animal for defending me.
Secondly, the hostility I have shown was for being accused of being a racist, which I am NOT. Also for being called a dummy. All for merely giving my opinion for an episode.
Bottom line; The episode sucked. Even if a viewer didn’t find the imagery offensive, it was just bad. They had just had Sam tell Dean in the previous, better episode that he was a hunter genius, then here they made him look like an idiot. And to have him say he was a Wiccan? I
have read and studied a lot about Wicca, although I consider myself a Christian, and they are an Earth centered religion, not a bunch of douchbags who can do magic at will. They do perform spells and
folk’ magic, but more as a means of channeling the subconscious energies we all have to help bring about positive change. And they have the credo, ‘Do as Thou Wilt but do no Harm’ as they believe that whatever energy you willfully put out into the universe, positive or negative, will come to you in kind threefold. These
witches’ were not Wiccans, so that made no sense to me. And to me, Portia and James and all the other guest characters didn’t interest me in the least.
I cared about Ellie. I cared about Aaron and his Gollem. But Nobody here, other than Sam and Dean, interested me in the least.

  118. IMO, supernatural is just showing a false example of how Heaven really is. There’s no angels fighting with each other in Heaven. To those who are willing to know ‘the truth’ about it, read the bible. Also, I do realize that Jared and Jensen do this show for the paychecks and also because they have families now to provide for, but I hope that after this series finally ends that they choose more wholesome type roles in the future.

    Comment by mys — March 4, 2013 @ 8:49 am

  119. I agree with comment 77. To those who find this show entertaining.. you seriously need a brain check. That, and also agree with the comment that animal made, what kind of message is that for ‘Cass’/ Mischa to send out to the viewers? Real positive, but than again, Supernatural is anything but positive.

    Comment by mys — March 4, 2013 @ 8:58 am

  120. Uh, I don’t believe in werewolves, vampires, ghosts, (or the bible to be honest) and other SPN things, so why in the world would I look at the show’s views on Heaven or Hell as truth? As someone said on another thread that the show has it’s own reality, and guess what? We aint part of it! It is fiction, not meant to be taken as truth. I find the show highly entertaining and will continue to do so, to say we who enjoy the show need a brain check is beyond the pale. Why be on a thread for fans of the show if you don’t find it entertaining? Now, I find that mind boggling in itself. I also find a lot of positive things about the show, and humor, interesting characters, plots, etc…

  121. I Guess Sam is destined to seal hell’s gates this season and Dean is gonna seal heavens gates with Cas help.

    Should be interesting XD!

    Comment by PlaGeRaN — March 5, 2013 @ 12:53 am

  122. 118- Actually, I hope to see Jensen get a major role in a cable series, maybe HBO, where his sexiness can be on full display.
121- I seriously doubt that it will be Dean that closes the Heaven gate, knowing this show. Dean will get no importance. No, it’ll be Cas that does this, with Dean’s help.
You know what? At this point, I really wish Jensen would concentrate on a music career after SPN. He’s a big country music fan right? Although I’m not much into country, for him, I’d love to see him do this seriously.
It’d be great if Jensen would get a role that would showcase his acting, his gorgeous looks, and his musical talent.

  123. As for religion, none of us knows anything right? I’t’s all just speculation. But to me, the angel/demon stuff is interesting. Why is it, for example, that Crowley can’t kill the Winchesters?
I mean, they may be special, but they are still technically human. So why is it that Crowley can’t just snap their necks? I think there’s something about the Winchesters we don’t know yet.

    Comment by roxi — March 6, 2013 @ 11:13 am

  124. IMO this show is far rom entertainment. Killing angels, and fighting over purgatory, now chasing after an angel tablet to close the gates of hell?? Goes to show you just how rooted this people are in their religion to make a show like this.

    Comment by mys — March 7, 2013 @ 8:54 am

  128. mys is it religion, other peoples views of it, or just religion on “Supernatural” that you find so distressing.

If it’s “Supernatural” try to remember no one has ever claimed it was real nor does it purport to be a reflection of anyone’s views on religion. I can personally attest to the fact that you don’t have to believe in something to write about it. Go to a used book store and see if you can find “Brothers Not” by Mickey Corckery. I certainly didn’t believe anyone could survive and nuclear holocaust that way.

On the other hand if it’s people who don’t share your interest or your views of religion that has you lashing out at roxi I’d like to bring your attention to “revelations”.

As one so well versed in the Bible I’m sure you understand:

‘Judge not lest yea be judged for as yea have judged so shall yea be judged and as yea met so shall yea merit’. (King James version)

    Comment by Haley 56 — March 9, 2013 @ 1:42 pm

  129. Thank you Haley. I wasn’t even aware this person was addressing me.
I have already several times given my ever evolving views. I still consider myself a Christian, just not in the way it is/was traditionally taught. I no longer look at the Bible as literal truth, but the Old Testament as metaphor and the New Testament as Jesus trying to show a better, more profoundly positive and loving way to live. I call myself a Christian because I try(and fail miserably) to live by his example. I no longer choose to focus on the horrific bloody manner of his death, on on the fear of burning in eternal torment for not measuring up, but on the example of his life which to me, is an unmatched example, the best example ever. So some people may claim I am not a Christian for no longer believing in an eternal fiery punishment or in a physical body being Resurrected. I believe the Resurrection was a spiritual one, not physical which to me is far more meaningful. As for Heaven and Hell, I do believe in them except that now, I believe we create them right here on Earth. I believe this is what Jesus was really telling us when he stated that ‘The kingdom of Heaven is at hand’. These are just my own beliefs which may very well change yet again over time. I do not expect everyone else to believe what I believe.
I understand that other people, including my own husband, have very different beliefs than my own. I have no problem with this, but it would be nice if people would stop telling ME what I should and shouldn’t believe. I go by what feels true to me.
How the heck did we get on religion again on this board? I certainly didn’t intend to start another long religious debate! Based on one line in my paragraph?
SPN is just a TV show being put on for entertainment. Does anybody truly believe that Jensen, Jared, or any of the writers actually believe any of this angel/demon stuff the way they’re presenting it? I saw a con video where someone asked Jensen who he would sell his soul for, and he said that he didn’t believe you could sell your soul( but if he had to, it would be for his wife). They’re just ACTING guys.

  130. I thought the person was addressing me, roxi. LOL!!! He/she just had the wrong posting number. Wow, what an intolerant person. Not everyone is a Christian so to say it “speaks volumes” , speaks volumes of that person’s narrow view of the world. I’ve read The Bible as literature. Please mys, don’t attack people’s personal beliefs, that is really racist and bigoted.

Supernatural is a show about supernstual beings. It is not suppose to be a lesson in religion. My reality does not include Wendigos, elves, ghosts, etc… So why in the hell would I take anything as truth in the Supernatual world? I love Sci-fi as well, but I don’t believe that Klingons and Vulcans exist, either. Geesh, stop bashing people who have a different view of the world than you do.

  131. Guys, bitching about Misha or Castiel won’t do anything. Either way, he’s getting paid. You have the right to an opinion, but you don’t have to be a dick. I think it is fantastic that we get to see more of Misha, but I’m just a teenage girl. My opinion is just as irrelevant as yours. Don’t like it? Don’t watch the show.

    Comment by Stop — March 10, 2013 @ 5:08 pm

  132. #131- What are you talking about? What does voicing their opinion about Cas/Misha have anything to do with whether or not Cas does something/
And your opinion is irrelevant? Your actually saying that about your own opinion? Or did you mean to say ‘relevant’?
You do have a right to express your opinion, but so do they, without being called dicks.

    Comment by roxi — March 11, 2013 @ 2:24 am

  133. LOL! roxi, I thought you were posting about my response because you had #131 (which was my post number) and were asking what they were talking about? I see you meant poster #132 (Stop). I was thinking “What?”, I didn’t call any one a “dick” or even mentioned Misha. Sometimes addressing a poster’s number is kinda confusing since many times they don’t match up right. I’m not sure what poster 132 was talking about, either. Guess I lost the train of thought for that particular thread.

  135. I love a good Castiel episode. I wish there were more shows and movies with angles. For example a supernatural season featuring Cas Sam and Dean going after a group of elite supernaturals conspiring to close the gates to heaven, Hell, and purgatory.

    Comment by Cleomenes Cortes — March 29, 2013 @ 8:14 pm

  136. Its the writers that have misused the angels in general on the show. I would love to see God finally show up and bring back
Michael (the Winchester brother) and see Lucifer take his place back in hell, with Crowley being his henchmen. I’d also love to see the young girl who worked with Dean in Season Eight and when her father died started hunting, hook up with Lisa’s Ben. I also love the Christmas episodes and hope they have a great one. Remember too that Garth is our new Bobby and can be developed into a great character, and we need to see more of Jodi the Sheriff who knows the whole deal. Yet, what is sad, is that Dean had Cas have wiped Lisa’s memory, but, Ben somehow makes her remember and figures out after meeting the new girl how to bring Lisa and Dean back together. I would love to see her come back with the truth that Ben is Dean’s kid and wants to be a Hunter. Can you see Dean and Lisa getting married with ghosts of the past attending, and there are a bunch. Season nine will likely be the last season unless the real legacy of the letters is developed by Sam. We also need some tales of the future and Dean and Sam seeing the Letters off Knowledge return, and hunters more like apes. i love the time traveling episodes and what will God’s reward be for Dean and Sam - bring back heir mom and dad? See episodes with the Dad becoming a Hunter, as we never really know much about the stories in his Journal. Dean needs to marry Lisa and Sam needs to fall in love with a demon that God accepts and some cool spy episodes could be made so long as Sam doesn’t start drinking blood. God could also bring back all the good Angels and what a group of stories that could make with the Trickster and Raphael. We are going to have to learn what would have happened if the Letters had originally survived. Whatever happens just don’t let the show turn out to be a dream where Sam is the real writer and Pulitzer winner from Stanford. There are a great number of possibilities, but like with Lost the ending was a disaster. I could live with a happy ending - we sure could use one in our fantasies as we approach nuclear war with the 29 year old leader of North Korea. It certainly doesn’t go along with Revelation. but we learned a great deal from Supernatural. Who the heck is Naomi really anyway?

  137. Hey Roxy,

You go girl! I live in a mixed marriage where my wife id Jewish and I am Catholic. We go to Temple and Church on the major holidays and get the good food on those days too, SPN is filled with religious connotations and historical facts, like Christ being born in the fall and Christmas a man made act. If we were literal Jesus would be as pissed as he was at the market when he flipped all the tables and chastised those selling for profits. I am sure you know the story that Luke tells about it. I recently went to Israel and heard an excellent explanation as to how Jesus fed 5000 people fish and Water to wine. In the area where the Jordan River crosses into the Dead Sea (which was truly amazing to swim in because you do float with no hands and cant stay in for more than half an hour and then must rinse yourself odd), fish that migrate in the Jordan river, when they cross the barrier that leads into the dead sea they die instantly. I think Christ knew of several places where this happened and scooped up the fish and fed everyone and there are these berries they make into a powder to add to water that does taste like wine. My son byes axiom from 7-11 to add to his water for baseball and football. Not everything is literal, but it is the meaning behind it,

    John
