Full Synopsis
St. Mary’s Convent - Ilchester, Maryland – 1972
A sudden breeze blows through the convent, and there’s an odd rushing noise. A priest is standing inside, putting out candles. The doors behind him blow open, and he turns shouting “No! No!” As the black smoke flows inside his mouth.
“Our Father who art in… Heaven,” the same priest is saying, “Hallow be thy name.” Behind him, a bunch of nuns are sitting in the Convent, listening. “Thy kingdom come, blah blah blah… Lead us not into temptation… But deliver us from evil.” He smiles and turns around to face them. “Truer words never spoken, huh sisters? But sometimes it seems that it’s difficult to know the creator. Sometimes I feel, in a very literal sense, that I have been wandering the desert for years, looking for our Father.” He stops at the main doors and locks them. “Well, not our Father. My Father. See, he’s in jail.” He turns around and begins walking up the aisle again. “Your Dad put him there.” The nuns turn to look at him, confused. “I almost gave up hope,” he continues, “but, ye of little faith, because I finally found him – or at least the spot where his cage door opens? It’s right here. In a damn convent, for God’s sake. Life is funny.” “Uh – Father?” one of the nuns begins. “Shut your frigging piehole, you little slut!” he shouts, whirling around to face her. She stares at him, her eyes filling up with tears. He smiles widely and goes back to the front of the room. “Then again, I suppose it makes sense. Folks forget, my daddy is an angel, after all. Or was. I mean I suppose some dumb bastard stood here and felt a jolt of his holy juice and thought – ‘I’m gonna build me a nun factory’. Well – it was the right idea. Wrong angel.” He laughs and turns to the altar. His eyes go yellow as he picks up a long knife. “So uh – if any of you gals are the praying type… now would be a good time to start.”
Behind the doors, screaming fills the room as the nuns yell for help.
Present day
Sam is standing, staring off into the distance. He’s beside Ruby’s car, and she’s right behind him. “Sam? Your head in the game here?” she asks. Sam swallows. “I’m good. Let’s go.” “You okay?” Ruby asks anyway. Sam turns to face her. “I just said I was.” She watches him. “Look, I know hand-holding really isn’t my thing? But still, Dean was wrong, saying what he said to you.” “No, he was right to say it,” Sam replies. “I mean, I don’t blame him, after what I did.” “Well after we’re done, you guys will patch things up. You always do,” Ruby reminds him. “You’re talking like I got an ‘after’,” Sam cuts in. “Don’t say that,” Ruby says. Sam shakes his head. “I can feel it inside me, Ruby. I’ve changed. For good. There’s no going back now.” “Sam…” Ruby begins, but Sam interrupts. “Look. I know what I gotta do, it’s okay. I’m just saying… Dean’s better off as far away from me as possible. Anyways, it doesn’t matter. Let’s just get this done with.” They get in the car.
Bobby’s house
Dean is standing, staring out the window of Bobby’s house. “Dean? Dean!” Bobby’s talking to him. “You listen to a word I said?” “Yeah I heard you,” Dean says quietly. “I’m not calling him.” “Don’t make me get my gun, boy,” Bobby replies sternly. Dean turns. “Come on, we are damn near kick-off for armageddon – don’t you think we got bigger fish at the moment?” “I know you’re pissed. And I’m not making apologies for what he’s done. But he’s your b…” “Blood?” Dean cuts in. “He’s my blood, is that what you’re gonna say?” His voice is cold. “He’s your brother,” Bobby finishes. “And he’s drowning.” “Bobby, I tried to help him, I did,” Dean says. “Look what happened.” “So try again,” Bobby says firmly. Dean shakes his head, walks past Bobby. “It’s too late.” “There’s no such thing,” Bobby begins. “No, dammit!” Dean says loudly. “No. We’ve gotta face the facts. Sam never wanted part of this family. He hated this life growing up. Ran away to Stanford first chance he got. Now it’s like déjà vu all over again.” His voice quivers at the end. “Well I am sick and tired of chasing him. Screw him. He can do what he wants.” “You don’t mean that,” Bobby says. “Yes I do, Bobby,” Dean says quietly. “Sam’s gone. He’s gone. I’m not even sure he’s still my brother anymore. If he ever was.” Bobby stands and sweeps a pile of papers onto the floor angrily, then turns on Dean, who stands up quickly. “You stupid, stupid son of a bitch!” Bobby yells. “Well boo-hoo, I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess! Are you under the impression that family’s supposed to make you feel good? Make you an apple pie, maybe? They’re supposed to make you miserable, that’s why they’re family!” “I told him, you walk out that door, don’t come back, and he walked out anyway!” Dean yells back, just as angry. “That was his choice!” “You sound like a whiny brat,” Bobby snaps. Dean pushes past him, walking back to the window. “No. You sound like your Dad,” Bobby goes on. “Well let me tell you something. Your dad was a coward.” Dean turns to face him, surprised. “My dad was a lot of things, Bobby. But a coward?” “He’d rather push Sam away than reach out to him,” Bobby explains, “Well that don’t strike me as brave. You are a better man than your daddy ever was. So you do both of us a favour. Don’t be him.” Dean tightens his jaw and looks away, and when he looks back, he’s shocked. He’s not in Bobby’s house anymore. He’s in a fancy room with candles and paintings of angels and angel statues. He walks forward, staring around in shock, until Castiel appears behind him. “Hello, Dean.” Dean whirls around. “It’s almost time,” Cas says.
Hospital
The nurse who is possessed by the demon is wheeling a baby along. “We’re gonna take you to the nursery, sugar,” she says sweetly. “Let Mommy and Daddy get some sleep. He’s a beautiful child,” she says to the parents, and continues down the hallway. “Absolutely scrumptious.” She sings to the baby as she wheels him along, and her eyes turn black. Suddenly she screams as she’s thrown backward against the wall. She looks up in surprise as Sam and Ruby walk in. “So, we need to talk,” Sam says calmly.
Dean is walking around in the fancy room, he trails his fingers along the table in the middle and crosses to the corner, looking up at a painting. When he looks back, the table has a big plate of hamburgers on it, and a bowl holding beer. He glances around the room, then walks closer and picks up one of the beers. “Hello Dean,” a voice says, and he looks up to see Zachariah and Castiel. “You’re looking fit,” Zachariah says. Dean puts down the beer and faces them. “Well, how about this? The Suite Life of Zach and Cas.” The angels look confused. “It’s a – nevermind,” Dean says. “So what is this, where the hell am I?” “Call it a green room… we’re closing in on the grand finale here,” Zachariah says, approaching him. “Wanna keep you safe before showtime. Try a burger – they’re your favourite. From that sea-side shack in Delaware? You were eleven I think?” “I’m not hungry,” Dean replies. “No? How about Ginger from Season 2 of Gilligan’s Island? You do have a thing for her, don’t you?” Zachariah suggests. Dean raises his eyebrows. “Tempting. Weird…” “We’ll throw in Mary Anne for free,” Zachariah adds. “No, no. Bail on the hollow deck, okay? I wanna know what the game plan is,” Dean says. “Let us worry about that,” Zachariah says calmly. “We want you focused, relaxed.” “Well, I’m about to be pissed and leaving, so start talking, Chuckles,” Dean replies. Zachariah sighs. “All the seals have fallen. Except one.” “That’s an impressive score, that’s right up there with the Washington Generals,” Dean says sarcastically. “You think sarcasm’s appropriate, do you? Considering… you started all this?” Zachariah replies. Dean glares at him silently. “The final seal,” Zachariah says, patting Dean on the shoulder. “It’ll be different.” “Why?” Dean asks. “Lillith has to break it,” Zachariah says. “She’s the only one who can. Tomorrow night, midnight.” “Where?” Dean asks. “We’re working on it,” Zachariah replies. “Well work harder,” Dean says. “We’ll do our job, you just make sure you do yours,” Zachariah says with a smile. “Yeah, and what is that, exactly? I’m supposed to be the one who stops her – how? With the knife?” Dean asks. “All in good time,” Zachariah says calmly. “Isn’t now a good time?” Dean snaps. “Have faith,” Zachariah replies. “What, in you? Give me one good reason why I should,” Dean says dangerously. “Because you swore your obedience,” Zachariah reminds him, coming closer. “So obey.” Dean glares at him, then glances at Castiel, who looks away.
Lillith’s chef demon is tied down to a table. She struggles as Sam approaches. “What, no devil’s trap?” she says. “I don’t need one,” Sam replies. “Look at you, all roided up! It’s like A-Rod and Madonna over here,” she grins, looking at Ruby. “Where’s Lillith?” Sam demands. “I’m not scared of you,” she says. “Yeah, you are actually,” Sam says, smirking humourlessly. “And with good reason.” She watches him for a moment, then “Look – what’s my upside? Okay, I tell you, you kill me, I don’t tell you, you still kill me – I get away somehow, Lillith’ll definitely kill me. So where’s my carrot?” “I think what you should be worrying about is what happens before you die,” Sam snaps. He raises his hand, and she begins to scream in pain.
Dean is pacing, holding his cellphone, trying to decide whether or not to call Sam. After a minute, he says “Ah, screw it,” and opens his phone. It goes straight to Sam’s voicemail. “Hey, it’s m-me. Uh – look, I’ll just get right to it. I’m still pissed, and I owe you a serious beat-down. But… I shouldn’t have said what I said. I’m not Dad. We’re brothers, you know, and family. No matter how bad it gets, that doesn’t change. Sammy, I’m sorry…” He’s cut off as the tape ends, and he hangs up, looking miserable.
The demon is still screaming as Sam tortures her. After a little while longer, she screams “Stop! Stop! Please!” “You’ll tell me where she is?” Sam asks. “Fine,” she gasps as Sam lets up. “Fine, just let me die.” “Deal,” Sam replies, and lowers his hand. “Tomorrow night. Midnight. She’s gonna be at a convent,” she tells him. “St. Mary’s. Ilchester, Maryland.” “A convent?” Sam repeats. “Lillith. She’s gonna break the final seal.” “And what is the final seal?” Sam asks. “I don’t know,” she says, and Sam raises his hand again and she starts screaming again. “I don’t know! I don’t know, I swear!” she screams. “I’m begging you, kill me please!” “Fine,” Sam says, and raises his hand again. “Wait,” Ruby says, stopping him. “You can’t.” “Why not?” Sam snaps. “Because we’ve gotta take her with us. It’s the final run on the deathstar and you need more juice than I got,” she reminds him. “You promised!” the demon says. “You bitch.” “I know. You just can’t trust anyone these days,” Ruby comments. The demon looks scared for a moment, then smiles. “Well at least you won’t be able to crack me open that easy.” “That so,” Ruby says. “Don’t forget – it’s not just me you’re bleeding,” the demon says. “In fact I think I’m gonna take a little siesta in the sub-conscious… hand over the wheel for a little bit…” “What are you talking about?” Sam asks. “Cindy McKellen. RN. Come on down!” she calls, and then goes limp. Sam and Ruby exchange looks. A second later, the girl starts to stir. “What? Where am I? Oh my God, I can’t move! What’s going on?” She catches sight of Sam and Ruby and turns to them. “Help! Help me please?” “Great,” Ruby says.
St. Mary’s Convent - Ilchester, Maryland, 1972
The priest has murdered all the nuns, and they are laying around on the floor. One is draped over the altar on her back, her head hanging down to face him. He kneels in front of her and clasps his hands. “Father, look - I’m not exactly the praying type, but still – I made the sacrifice, I got you back for the nuns. So uh… can you hear me? Can you whisper through the door?” A breeze blows through the room, and the demon smiles. The nun that is draped over the altar suddenly gasps loudly and opens her mouth. “I’m here, my son.” “It’s so good to hear your voice, padre,” the demon says. “I have been searching for you for so long, you have no idea. The others have lost faith. But I’m here.” “You’ve done well,” Lucifer breathes. “So uh – how do I bust you out?” asks the demon. “Lillith,” replies Lucifer. “Lillith? Father, she’s trapped neck-deep in the pit. Won’t be easy,” the demon says. “Lillith. Lillith can break the seals,” Lucifer says again. “Yeah okay – but what do I do?” the demon asks. “You must find me a child,” Lucifer says. “A very special child.” The demon’s eyes go yellow. “What do you mean? What child?”
Present day
Sam is sitting at his laptop, reading. “You’ve gotta be kidding me,” he says suddenly. On the screen is a picture of the same priest. “What?” Ruby asks. “Get this – St. Mary’s was abandoned in ’72 after a priest disemboweled eight nuns.” “What’s black and white and red all over?” Ruby asks, smiling. “That’s not funny,” Sam says. “The priest said it wasn’t his fault – he said a demon made him do it, and that he even remembered the demon’s name – Azazel.” “Wow – so Lillith, Yellow Eyes – all the A-listers are paying visits,” Ruby says, sitting on the table. “Certainly gives the joint credibility.” “That’s the place where the final seal goes down,” Sam agrees. “Well, it’s good enough for me,” Ruby replies. “Let’s pack up Nurse Betty and hit the road.” Sam stands. “Hey, maybe… uh…” “What?” Ruby asks. “Maybe we can find another demon,” Sam suggests. He looks over at the girl, who is sleeping. “Sam, no! That blubbery ‘don’t hurt me’ crap, it’s just an act!” Ruby says. “She’s playing you.” “I’m not so sure,” Sam argues. “Even if she’s not, there’s still a hell-bitch snoozing in there. I mean come on – it’s not like you haven’t done this before, right?” Ruby looks at him. Sam doesn’t say anything.
Outside, Sam pulls the girl down the steps towards the car. She’s pleading with him to let her go, but Sam just pulls her along and pushes her into the trunk of the car, and closes it.
Dean is still pacing. He goes over to a statute of a white angel, and knocks it over so it smashes on the floor. He smirks, and then Castiel appears. “You asked to see me.” Dean glances quickly at the smashed statue, then back at Cas. “Yeah, listen, I uh – I need something.” “Anything you wish,” Castiel replies. “I need you take me to see Sam,” Dean says. “Why?” Cas asks. “There’s something I gotta talk to him about,” Dean replies. “What’s that?” Castiel asks. “The BM I took this morning – what’s it to you?” Dean asks, walking closer. “Just make it snappy.” “I don’t think that’s wise,” Castiel says, glancing around. “Well I didn’t ask you for your opinion,” Dean says. “Have you forgotten what happened the last time you met?” Castiel asks. Dean glares at him. “No. That’s the whole point. Listen, I’m gonna do whatever you mooks want, okay? I just need to tie up this one thing. Five minutes, that’s all I need.” Castiel considers for a second. “No.” Dean stares at him. “What do you mean, no? Are you saying that I’m trapped here?” “You can go wherever you want,” Castiel says. “Super, I wanna go see Sam,” Dean says immediately. “Except there,” Castiel replies. “I wanna take a walk,” Dean says. “Fine, I’ll go with you,” Castiel says. “Alone,” Dean adds. “No,” Castiel says. “You know what, screw this. I’m out of here,” Dean says, walking past Castiel. “Through what door?” Castiel asks. Dean turns to look at him, and when he looks back at the door, it’s gone. Just a blank wall is left. Castiel is gone. “Dammit,” Dean says under his breath.
On the road
Sam’s looking at his phone – it says “One new voicemail from: Dean”. Sam stares at it. “What are you, a twelve-year-old girl? Just play it already,” Ruby says. The girl in the trunk is still screaming. “Mind your own business,” Sam snaps, not looking at her. The girl keeps pounding and screaming. “God, I wish she would just shut up,” Sam says quietly. “Well that can be arranged,” Ruby says. Sam glares at her. “I don’t get it – all the demons you cut with the knife, what do you think happens to the host? How is this any different?” she asks. “Is that supposed to make me feel better?” Sam asks. “I know that you’re having a tough time here, Sam? But we’re on the final lap here. Now is not the time to grow a persqueeter,” Ruby says. “Would you drop the frigging attitude?” Sam snaps suddenly. “I’m about to bleed and drink an innocent woman while she watches!” “And save the world as a result,” Ruby reminds him. Sam shakes his head and looks away. “I dunno. I’m just starting to think… maybe Dean was right.” “About what?” Ruby asks. “About everything,” Sam says. Ruby looks at him. “We’re gonna see this through, right Sam? Sam!” Sam doesn’t answer.
Dean is smashing in the wall with a statue. There’s a strange sound suddenly, and the hole is patched up. He touches it, looking shocked, then throws down the statue. “Son of a bitch.” “Quit hurling feces like a howler monkey, would you?” Zachariah says, appearing behind him. “It’s unbecoming.” “Let me outta here,” Dean growls. “Like I told you, too dangerous out there. Too many demons on the prowl,” Zachariah says. “I’ve been getting my ass kicked all year,” Dean says loudly. “Now you’re sweating my safety? You’re lying. I wanna see my brother.” “That’s… ill-advised,” Zachariah says calmly. “You know, I am so sick of your crap riddles, and your smug fat face. What the hell is going on, huh? Why can’t I see Sam?” Dean yells. “And how I am gonna ice Lillith?” Zachariah sighs. “You’re not. Going to ice Lillith.” “What?” Dean says. “Lillith’s going to break the final seal,” Zachariah says. “Train’s left the station.” He sits down. Dean stares. “But me and Sam, we can stop…” Dean pauses, looks at Zachariah, who is smiling calmly. “You don’t wanna stop it, do you?”
Zachariah shakes his head. “Nope. Never did. The end is nigh, the apocalypse is coming, kiddo. To a theatre near you.” Dean is shocked. “What was all that crap about saving seals?” Zachariah shrugs. “Grunts on the ground – we couldn’t just tell them the whole truth. We’d have a full-scale rebellion on our hands. I mean think about it – would we really let sixty-five seals get broken? Unless senior management wanted it that way?” Dean looks away. “But why?” “Why not? The apocalypse… poor name, bad marketing… puts people off. When all it is, is Ali-Foreman. On a slightly larger scale. And we like our chances. When our side wins – and we will – it’s paradise on Earth. What’s not to like about that?” Dean is looking at all the pictures on the walls, of demons fighting angels. “What happens to all the people during your little pissing contest?” Zachariah shrugs. “Well… can’t make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. In this case, truckloads of eggs, but you get the picture. Look. It happens.” He approaches Dean again. “This isn’t the first planetary enema we’ve delivered.” Dean glances over at one of the statues.
“Ah, no Dean, you probably shouldn’t try to bash my skull in with that thing,” Zachariah advises. “Wouldn’t end up too pleasant for you.” Dean blinks back tears. “What about Sam? He won’t go quietly. He’ll stop Lillith.” Zachariah sighs and smiles. “Sam… has a part to play. A very important part. He may need a little nudging in the right direction, but I’ll make sure he plays it.” Dean looks scared. “What does that mean? What’re you gonna do to him?” “Sam, Sam, Sam! Marsha Marsha Marsha. Forget about him, would you?” He puts his hand on Dean’s shoulder. “You have larger concerns. Why do you think I’m confiding in you? You’re still vital, Dean! We weren’t lying about your destiny. Just omitted a few pertinent details. But nothing’s changed – you are chosen. You will stop it.” Dean blinks, confused. “Just not Lillith or the apocalypse, that’s all,” Zachariah clarifies. “Which means?” Dean asks. Zachariah smiles and looks at one of the paintings. “Lucifer.” Dean looks at it too. It shows a man in armor stabbing the devil, who is laying on the ground. “You’re going to stop Lucifer. You’re our own little Russell Crowe, complete with surly attitude. And when it’s over – and when you’ve won – your rewards will be unimagineable. Peace, happiness… two virgins and seventy sluts…” He laughs and slaps Dean on the back, then walks past him. “Trust me. Someday we’ll look back on this and laugh.” “Tell me something,” Dean says, and Zachariah stops. “Where’s God in all this?” “God?” Zachariah repeats. “God has left the building.” He disappears. Dean looks back a the painting.
The convent
A security guard is walking through the old building with a flashlight. “Howdy,” a voice behind him says. He whirls around. Lillith is standing behind him. “Hey… this is private property, you’re not supposed to be here,” he says. “But I’m here for mass,” she says. “And so are you.” A couple of demons attack and kill him as Lillith’s eyes turn white.
Dean is trying call Sam, but he can’t get a signal. Castiel appears behind him. “You can’t reach him, Dean. You’re outside your covered zone.” “What are you gonna do to Sam?” Dean asks without turning around. Castiel sighs and walks around so he can face him. “Nothing. He’s gonna do it to himself.” Dean glares at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Castiel is silent. “Oh right, right. Gotta toe the company line. Why are you here, Cas?” “We’ve been through much together, you and I. And I just wanted to say I’m sorry it ended like this,” Castiel replies. Dean raises his eyebrows. “Sorry.” He punches Castiel in the face, but Castiel doesn’t even move, he just turns his head. Dean turns, holding his hand and holding his breath so he doesn’t make any sound of pain. “It’s armageddon, Cas, you need a bigger word than sorry!” “Try to understand, this is long foretold,” Castiel says firmly. “This is your…” “Destiny?” Dean interrupts. “Don’t give me that holy crap. Destiny, God’s plan – it’s all a bunch of lies, you poor stupid son of a bitch! It’s just a way for your bosses to keep me and to keep you in line! You know what’s real? People. Families. That’s real! And you’re gonna watch ‘em all burn?” “What is so worth saving?” Castiel argues. “I see nothing but pain here! I see inside you – I see your guilt, your anger, confusion… in paradise, all is forgiven. You’ll be at peace. Even with Sam.” Dean watches him for a second, then catches his eye. “You can take your peace and shove it up your lily white ass. Cause I’ll take the pain. And the guilt. I’ll even take Sam as is. It’s a lot better than being some Stepford bitch in paradise! This is simple, Cas! No more crap about being a good soldier – there is a right and there is a wrong here, and you know it. Look at me!” He grabs Castiel’s shoulder and makes him face him. “You know it! Now you were gonna help me once, weren’t you? You were gonna warn me about all this before they dragged you back to Bible camp. Help me. Now. Please.” “What would you have me do?” Castiel asks. “Get me to Sam! We can stop this before it’s too late,” Dean says desperately. “I do that, we will all be hunted. We’ll be killed,” Castiel warns. Dean looks at him. “If there is anything worth dying for, this is it.” Castiel shakes his head. Dean nods. “You spineless, soulless son of a bitch. What do you care about dying, you’re already dead. We’re done.” He walks away. “Dean,” Cas begins. “We’re done,” Dean repeats coldly. When he looks back, Castiel is gone.
Sam looks at the sign – it reads “St. Mary’s Convent – two miles”. “Sam, it’s time – are we doing this or not?” Ruby calls from where she stands at the car. “Give me a minute to think,” he says. “Sam!” she begins. “Give me a damn minute, Ruby!” Sam snaps. She fingers the knife. “Better think fast.” Sam pulls out his cellphone and puts it to his ear, ready to listen to Dean’s message. “Listen to me, you blood-sucking freak,” Dean’s voice says coldly, “Dad always said I’d have to save you, or kill you. Well I’m giving you fair warning. I’m done trying to save you. You’re a monster, Sam. A vampire. You’re not you anymore, and there’s no going back.” Sam’s eyes well up as he listens, and he slowly puts down the phone. Ruby watches him with a slight smile. “Do it,” Sam says. “Thank God,” she says, and heads for the trunk.
Dean’s pacing the room again frantically. Finally he reaches for one of the hamburgers, and just when he’s about to take a bite, Castiel grabs his shoulder. He throws him against the wall and covers his mouth with one hand, pulling out the demon-killing knife. Dean stares at him with confused eyes until he realizes Castiel isn’t going to hurt him. He nods, and Castiel lets go of him. He cuts his own arm as Dean watches, then begins painting his blood on the wall, some sort of symbol. “Castiel!” They both jump as Zachariah appears in the room. “Would you mind explaining just what the hell you’re doing?” He starts forward, but Castiel puts his palm on the center of the symbol, and Zachariah gives a yell. In a burst of white light, he’s gone. “He won’t be gone long. We have to find Sam now,” Castiel warns. “Where is he?” Dean asks. “I don’t know,” Castiel admits. He hands Dean the knife. “But I know who does. We have to stop him, Dean. From killing Lillith.” “But Lillith’s gonna break the final seal,” Dean says. “Lillith IS the final seal!” Castiel says. “She dies, the end begins.”
Chuck’s house
The page reads “Supernatural - Lucifer Rising: by Carver Edlund”. Chuck is on the phone. “Oh yeah, a the same time? Wow. That sounds… moist. What are your rates?” “We can get you one girl, one hour, one thousand,” the woman at the other end of the phone says. “Okay – then I’ll take twenty girls, for the whole night,” Chuck says. “I’m not sure you can afford that,” the woman says. “Lady, sometimes you gotta live like there’s no tomorrow,” Chuck says, and turns around to see Dean and Castiel standing there. “This isn’t supposed to happen,” he begins. “Sir?” the woman says. “No, lady, this is definitely supposed to happen, I just gotta call you back.” He hangs up. He stares at Dean and Cas.
Convent
A demon is walking down the hallway to the altar with a cup of blood to where Lillith is waiting. She takes the cup. “Don’t be afraid! We’re going to save the world,” she smiles. The demon leaves. She turns and puts down the blood, and when she turns back around, all the demons who were outside are dead. She watches as Sam and Ruby come around the corner, and she raises her hand and shuts the doors between them.
Chuck’s
“St. Mary’s – what is that, a convent?” Dean asks, looking at the page. “Yeah – but you guys aren’t supposed to be there. You’re not in this story,” Chuck says. “Yeah, well we’re making it up as we go,” Castiel says, and Dean looks at him, surprised. At that moment, Chuck’s computer goes off and bright light fills the room. “What? Oh no, not again!” Chuck says. “It’s the archangel! I’ll hold him off. I’ll hold them all off!” Castiel shouts. “Just stop Sam!” he puts his hand on Dean’s forehead.
Dean’s in the convent.
At Chuck’s, Castiel looks up at the bright light. Chuck puts his hand on Cas’s shoulder, and when Castiel gives him a look, he removes it.
Convent
Sam busts down the doors, and throws Lillith against the altar. She sits up slowly, and he puts up his hand, pinning her there.
Dean runs around the corner and sees them, but Ruby turns and sees him too. She smirks and raises her hand, shutting the doors between them.
Sam walks closer to Lillith, smiling grimly. “I’ve been waiting for this – for a very long time.” “Then give me your best shot,” she replies. Sam raises his hand, and Lillith gasps. Light fills her body, burning her from the inside. Ruby smiles. Sam keeps going until suddenly he hears something – Dean’s voice. Shouting his name. He lowers his hand and turns.
Outside, Dean is pounding on the door. “Sam? Sammy!”
“Dean?” Sam stares at the door. “What are you waiting for?” Ruby is screaming, but Sam can’t really hear her that well. “Sammy!” he hears Dean’s voice again. Suddenly, laughter filters through all the rest of the sound. He turns, Lillith is laughing. “You turned yourself into a freak – a monster. And now you’re not gonna bite! I’m sorry, but that is honestly adorable.” Sam glares at her, his heart pounding, and raises his hand again. His eyes go black, and Lillith gasps as the light fills her again. Sam clenches his fist, and Lillith gasps. The light goes out, and she slumps the ground, dead. Sam’s eyes go back to normal.
Blood is flowing out of Lillith’s head, flowing away from her in a shape. Sam looks down. “What the hell?” “I can’t believe it,” Ruby says, walking closer. “Ruby, what’s going on?” Sam asks. “You did it. I mean, it was a little touch and go there for a while, but… you did it,” she says. “What? What did I do?” Sam asks. “You opened the door,” Ruby says. “And now he’s free at last. He’s free at last.” “No no no – Lillith – I stopped her. I killed her!” Sam says desperately. “And it is written… that the first demon shall be the last seal,” Ruby says. “And you busted her open. Now guess who’s coming to dinner.” Sam blinks in shock. “Oh my God.” “Guess again,” Ruby smiles. The blood is a circle on the floor now, and other lines are beginning to go inward.
Dean continues to slam at the door.
“You don’t even know how hard this was,” Ruby goes on. “All the demons out for my head – no one knew. I was the best of those sons of bitches! The most loyal! Not even Alastair knew! Only Lillith. Yeah, I’m sure you’re a little angry right now but come on, Sam! Even you have to admit, I’m – I’m awesome!” “You bitch,” Sam growls. “You lying bitch!” He puts up his hands to kill her, but nothing happens. He collapses instead. “Don’t hurt yourself Sammy, it’s useless,” Ruby says gently. “You shot your payload on the boss.” “The blood,” Sam gasps. “You poisoned me!” Ruby shakes her head. “No. It wasn’t the blood. It was you. And your choices – I just gave you the options, and you chose the right path. Every time! You didn’t need the feather to fly – you had it in you the whole time, dumbo.” Sam stares at her. “I know it’s hard to see it now,” Ruby says, kneeling in front of him. “But this is a miracle! So long coming. Everything Azazel did, and Lillith did, just to get you here! And you were the only one who could do it.” “Why? Why me?” Sam asks, tears in his eyes. “Because… because it had to be you, Sammy,” Ruby says, stroking his face. “It always had to be you. You saved us, you set him free! And he’s gonna be grateful! He’s gonna repay you in ways that you can’t even imagine!”
The door suddenly bursts open behind them, and Dean is standing there. He starts forward, pulling out the knife, and Ruby stands. “You’re too late,” she says. “I don’t care,” Dean growls, and raises his arm. Just as Ruby is about to move, Sam grabs her arms from behind, keeping her still, and Dean stabs her in the stomach. She falls to the ground, dead. Dean slowly raises his eyes to look at Sam, and Sam looks back at him. “I’m sorry,” Sam says.
At that moment, a light suddenly appears in the middle of the circle of blood, and the circle begins to turn. The boys watch in horror. Dean slowly raises his hand and grabs Sam’s jacket, just as Sam reaches for his. “Sammy, let’s go,” Dean says. “Dean,” Sam says. “He’s coming.” The boys hold onto each other as the light burns brighter. Lucifer is rising.
