Hookman
Hookman:
The Reverend Cometh
I was excited by the trailer and premise of this episode
right from the get-go. It reminded me of several classic
horror movies all rolled into one, and I was intrigued
how the producers would play it out.
First,
we have the sometimes invisible, evil spirit 'hooking'
his victims to death in true Hollywood style. It wasn't
exactly anything new, and to some it may have seemed contrived,
but to most of us we plain loved it!
The
dark, cloaked figure, stalking his victims was everything
that embodies what we've come to expect from such a creature,
and all we, the audience, need to know is the how and
the why of his return to this world.
Of
coarse, Dean and Sam are on hand to answer/solve these
riddles and fight off the evil that resides in this small
Iowa town.
So,
as usual, 'Supernatural' did what it does best.
It played out like a mini-movie, showing us nothing earth
shatteringly new, but giving us a great rollercoaster
ride to keep us thrilled.
Jensen
was perfectly in character as Dean, delivering wise-cracks
and hanging his nose over the girls in true Winchester
style.
Sam
was even better! This week we saw another, more heroic
side to his persona as he faced off the 'Hookman'- even
getting injured in the process! It's not often we've seen
the brothers share screen time and action equally, but
tonight we did, and the episode shined all the more for
it.
Jared
and Jensen gave their usual crisp performances, Jared
the quiet, calculating brother, and Jensen as his perfectly
sarcastic sidekick. I can't really pick fault with anything
they've done so far!
The
writing- well, to be honest, I can't say as the writers
pulled any unexpected punches with the script in terms
of plot. Let's face it, we've seen it all before. BUT,
the execution of the plot for a TV show was more than
adequate, it was FUN!
For
me, 'Hookman' was yet another entertaining night's viewing,
and so far 'Supernatural' hasn't really let me
down. Some episodes have been better than others it's
true, but none have been anywhere near mediocre.
Now that the show is getting a full run from the WB, I
look forward to even more ghoulish delights! If you like
the teen-horror movie genre, or just want an hour's worth
of easy viewing, you can't go wrong with this 'no brains
required' show!
