Nightmare
I
have been waiting for a review of this episode and when
it became apparent that no one was going to write one,
I thought I had too because I just loved this episode.
So bear with me since I don’t usually do this.
I
should explain that while I enjoy the weekly demon of
the week (some more than others) I am not a huge horror
fan. My favorite episodes are the ones that have a lot
of brotherly interaction and that delve into the big
family mystery. This episode has both in abundance.
“Nightmare”
advances things in several areas. It moves Sam’s
abilities forward, as his nightmares turn into daytime
visions and by the end he even develops telekinesis.
While all this is happening, it also advances his anxiety
since he doesn’t understand what is happening.
And as a result he turns to his brother more. The episode
also advances the mystery surrounding the family since
they encounter someone else with the same family history
(Max’s mom died the same way Sam and Dean’s
mom died) and who is developing new abilities just like
Sam. Why these two families? Are there more people like
Sam and Max? I can’t wait to find out.
I
love it when the brother’s interact both seriously
and with comedy. When Sam expresses his concern and
Dean, the big brother, consoles him by telling him everything
is going to be okay. I have to admit that Jensen Ackles
is very good at expressing Dean’s true brotherly
concern in just a brief, fleeting look. Dean’s
wise cracks are a little less than usual in this episode
because of the serious things happening. The final scene
is the typical Sam and Dean conversation. A perfect
end to the episode, as Dean says they should go to Vegas
with Sam’s premonition abilities.
I
found this episode lived up to my expectations from
this show. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and am
anxiously waiting the next installment.
