Scarecrow
After
countless weeks (which may have seemed like forever
in some fans eyes), we finally get a new episode of
Supernatural! Hooray, right? Well I have got
to say, I wasn't really impressed by this episode in
the slightest bit. I guess after two strong episodes
like "Home" and "Asylum", "Scarecrow"
just couldn't compare.
First
off one thing that annoyed me, which I know, isn't the
shows fault, but the commercials. There seemed to be
more breaks in the show for the commercials. And also,
they kept showing the same "Beauty and The Geek
2" commercial over and over again. Just give us
the Supernatural episode! That is what the
viewers are there to watch. Way to go WB, way to go.
Okay
now onto the episode itself. I didn't really like the
beginning much. Now the "one year ago" scene
was going pretty good, until the couple was chased by
the Scarecrow because the camera was like there was
another person taping it and running with them. The
first thing I said when I saw that was "Blair
Witch Project" which isn't a complement. Now
also in the beginning Sam had the phone conversation
with his father. And no offense to Jared, but his acting
seemed horrible when he was talking and seemed a little
fake.
Directing
this review towards the actual demon Scarecrow my biggest
complaint would be LOSE THE HOOK! Seriously, this episode
got a "Hookman" feeling enough, without both
spirits looking like each other. They basically had
to be destroyed the same way too. The Hookman by burning
all the silver and the Scarecrow by burning down a tree.
Its pretty disappointing how similiar that is.
I
also happened to read the talkback thread on the site
forum and noticed something that a member, Valjean said:
"Dean
was way too incompetent on that job. He bungled practically
everything, and when he was tied in the orchard he didn't
have a clue how to get away. It was like he was kind
of just waiting for Sam to come rescue him."
I completely agree with what Valjean said. Now, also
what does this say about Dean's character? He can take
the hero stance when him and Sam are together, but alone?
The tables are turned.
Okay
finally onto the good. Dean, as usual, had some funny
lines. Again there wasn't really an abundance of it,
but enough to hold you over. Now the brotherly tension
is brought up again, which lead to good characterization
for our brothers, especially Dean! Finally it's not
just the "girl crazy" Dean that we have grown
to love (or hate for that matter). We get to see him
emotional, yet when Sam got emotional near the end,
he wasn't afraid to go back to his old sarcastic self
either.
Something
i'm currently indifferent about is Meg. I mean its a
nice twist, but it wasn't really unexpected, as least
to me and I haven't read any spoilers previously. Something
weird is that Sam didn't look like he sensed anything
about her. Maybe he did and will reveal that later or
maybe his powers aren't as strong as hers. Also I want
to see who Meg's father is. It seems like a really strong
demon character, I'm thinking like a devil or something....
Okay
maybe I vented a little, well, a lot during this review
but hopefully we can start to see this series pick up
again!
Next
Week's Speculation: It appears that Dean gets
a deathly disease or something? I can't wait to read
what the Dean Fan Girls have to type after this episode.
But I'm a little excited, it seems as if we get more
Sam time!
